Okay need to know the how to on the TUG renting? I have been to the site but doesn't explain it too well. Want to know how I am protected? I eman is this just blind faith on the person to person type deal or is there a middle man from the TUG site? I know, this might seem starnge but sure don't want to get money lost on a deal or get there and have no place to stay. Help me understand it:confused:

thank you

By the way.... I also do not understand the whole sky auction thing either!:(

tug is a person to person thing - kind of like the dis board - dvc rental/trade.

you are dealing with a person

- go to the tug board in the state you are talking about and ask for references - if this is their first rental you aren't going to get any feed back - that doesn't mean they will cheate you - they are unknown quality - however if you get back that this person did not go through with the deal - then find someone else.

skyauction is run and owned by RCI (a very know quality - they are biggest timeshare exchange network in the world).

there are several tuggers who now will not use RCI because of skyauction and several other sites - RCI is selling their exchanges (they claim they are not - but just go look at what they offer member these days)

I don't have a problem - but I plan in advance - not last minute - some others do and this is a big problem using RCI.

II (Interval International) had for a while a site selling their excess inventory to the public - but so many II members complainted. this site was done away with - too bad - I really though it was a GREAT ideal both for II and the general public. the more people who are introduced to timesharing the most people will get timeshares - I saw it as a win - win situation - most II members did not.....

so II members will pay a heavier fee in the years ahead - because of the timeshares that II member don't want and II can't made an exchange.

they were the II getaways with more of an fee - I think it was maybe $75 more than what a II member would pay.

As spiceycat said - you deal with the person that has placed the ad.

Once you establish contact by phone/email, you can ask them for references. A contract will be sent to you to sign and you would then send it back with a deposit. It should clearly state how much the rental agreement is for, what they expect for a deposit and by which date and when the final payment due is. Also, make sure their cancellation policy is clearly understood on the contract. It's pretty simple, nothing fancy. It will say the name of the resort, address and which type of accommodations they are renting to you (studio, 1BR, 2BR, 3BR) and the duration of your stay. You'll keep a copy for yourself and send one back to the renter.

After depositing, you can always call the resort to confirm you're reservation there. A guest certificate will be issued in you're name from the person you are renting from.

I've had no problems at all with people from TUG, it's a very reputable site. Of course, it's a chance you take, but I haven't heard of any problems here on the DIS with people being "taken".

Hope you get the resort you want and that everything works out for you :D

p.s. sorry, can't help you about skyauction, but it doesn't sound like something I'd want to take a chance on, you have to be very flexible with your dates.

Okay, sounds like this could be a way to find a nice deal! Thank you for filling me in and helping me to grasp the idea.

thank you

:wave2:
