We are thinking about trying to go the second week in Oct, the 7, 8 & 9... it is a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. What do you think the crowds will be like on those days? Do you think it will be alright, being that its in the middle of the week... I also looked to see if there were any major events going on then and couldnt find any. Any thoughts???

The crowd level should be fine. The only problem I have is the shortened park hours and the lack of any night entertainment (fireworks, fantasmic). That kind of entertainment is only shown on weekends during less crowded seasons. So it's kind of a win/lose situation. Low crowds/no fireworks or fantasmic.

They dont do the fireworks at all??? We want to do Mickey's Halloween Treat and I thought I read awhile back that they had special Halloween fireworks for that. We went on a Thursday to that 2 years ago and I didnt see any firworks then... maybe thats just for the weekend too?

Nope, no special halloween fireworks, at least not last year. There was a mini halloween parade last year. Fireworks and fantasmic are only weekends (Fri, Sat, & Sun). No Electrical Light Parade and only 1 parade of dreams Mon-Thur. We've gone in Oct twice now and midweek crowd was doable. Weekends were horrible though. You are looking at DL park hours 10-8 and DCA 10-6. DCA might even be shorter if it's a Halloween Treat Night.

October used to be my favorite time of year to go. Never busy, great weather, good deals on hotels.

DH and I usually go to DLR on the off-season, during the week, to escape the crowds.

However, we went this past October, at the exact time you are considering. Second week, during the week. Due to Arizona schools fall break, it was incredibly busy! We talked to several CMs that said they were surprised by the crowds. So what did this mean for us... Weekend size crowds with short park hours and no fireworks/Fantismic!

I even posted here on the boards while there to comment on the crowds. I found out that they finally extended DL hours the last night we were there, but we had tickets for the MHT, so that didn't do us any good.

If you want to go in October and want the weekday crowds, I'd do some research and avoid going when the Arizona schools are on break. I won't make that mistake again!

is it just me or does it seem like there are alot of breaks in the school year now? Everywhere I see reports of crowds in DL and WDW and see three day weekend, week long fall breaks, week long spring breaks that are around Presidents Day and then of course are winter breaks at Christmas and a later spring break at Easter, now fall break in October?? They just started school and need a break? New Mexico kids start toward the end of August and are out by Memorial Day and honestly..no exaggeration..barely a week goes by that they are at school all five days.
Just musing..
My point is that..well..no time seems to be slow anymore.

The AZ districts near me have fall breaks during that week (6-10). I agree that it affects the crowds.

Thanks everyone for the info. What about sometime during the last two weeks of Oct? Do you think that might be a little better??

I am disappointed to hear about the crowds in Oct. My kids schools are thinking of going to "modified traditional" school year next year. They would have that exact week in Oct. off. I thought we would be able to do an off season trip without having to take them out of school and doing independent study. I guess we will have to go back to plan B. :confused3

Does anyone know of any breaks around the 14th to 19th? Thats when I am hoping to go.

Our district (in Tucson) just decided to have a fall break and have the kids come back to school a week earlier this coming school year. We are happy about the break but I know Disneyland will be crowded. Even so, we are planning our trip.

The break for us is Oct 13-17th. I know a few of the other districts in town have been doing this same schedule for a while so you can count on there being some Tucsonans there during that time.

Sounds like I will have lots of company in Oct. Oh well, the more the merrier right?
