Hi everyone. We have a stay at The Poly DVC coming up soon and we are thinking of renting a car. We almost never have a rental but got one last visit and DH really liked the convenience. We were at CSR...anyway, I need opinions and advice on transportation in general from the Poly. Is it a shared bus in mid January? How long is the walk from the DVC studio units to the TTC in general? We tend to spend a lot of time at Epcot when it's just us so this is probably most important.

Pago Pago and Moorea, 2/3 of the DVC Longhouses at the Poly, are the closest to the TTC. It was about a 7 minute walk from Hawaii when I stayed there this summer, so I'd wager it's about 5 or so from those two.

As far as the bus situation is concerned, I can't speak for the mid-January bus schedule unless it's the same as the August one. Over the summer, it really depended on where we were going. We shared a bus to Disney Springs, but not to DHS.

Enjoy your trip!

Poly ‘usually’ shares a bus with GF. It’ll stop at Poly, then GF, then on to your destination. Coming back it’ll stop at Poly before GF. There are exceptions, but that’s usually the pattern.

Just FYI, from Poly buses service HS, AK, and DS - there are no MK and Epcot buses, except if the monorail is not running.

As @Newsies indicated, the DVC longhouses are the closest ones to the TTC, so you have the shortest room to TTC walk possible. It’s a relatively quick walk, 5ish minutes. Maybe longer if you take your time.

Note, you will go through security at the TTC (and also again at Epcot if that’s your destination).

We frequently stay at Poly and convenience (eg, walkability) to the Epcot monorail is one of my favorite features.

Hope that helps!

Thank you, that is very helpful. The transportation is worrying me a bit. We stay at the Epcot resorts often and sometimes the bus transportation from them leaves a lot to be desired. I was thinking that if getting to and from Epcot is challenging we would bite the bullet on the car rental.

Personally, I find getting to Epcot from Poly to be a breeze. It's the best option of the monorail resorts given the walkability to the TTC. It's sort of a next best option for Epcot without staying at an Epcot resort. Even if I had a car, I'd take the monorail to Epcot 99% of the time.

On occasion, I have taken a cab/Uber/Lyft from Poly to Epcot, but that has really only been for a PPO ADR or something time sensitive where I was trying to control timing in a more exact way.

None of my bus experiences to/from Poly have been particularly problematic in my travels... just the usual gig for the most part. No better/worse than other resorts.

Good luck!

We were last at the Poly in September. The busses were pretty darn good, and I was delightfully surprised. Actually, as I think about it, they were really pretty good in May, also. The walk from the DVC buildings to the TTC is quick and easy. Two years ago, I'd have said rent the car -- not any more.

We are big fans of the transportation at the Poly and see no need for a car. Being able to walk to the TTC and on the monorail to the MK is a main reason we stay there so often. From Hawaii where we stay, it's only a few minutes to walk to the TTC (and a pleasant one) but as a PP mentioned, you have to go through security twice. It's very easy to go back and forth to Epcot and we often go in the morning for rides, come back for a midday swim, and then go back to Epcot for dinner with no issues.

We have also been very happy with the bus schedule - usually pick up at the GF after the Poly so there are plenty of seats. (The boats to/from the MK are also shared with the GF, but the boat goes straight from the Poly to the MK, and stops first at GF on the way back.)
