TTA vs. People Mover

How does the Tomorrowland Transit Authority compare to Disneyland's (now closed) People Mover? I see that the ride cars are very different, with no roof or rails. How else do the two differ? For example, do you still get the audio tour of the park? Is it still a nice relaxing break?

We love this ride. They are these very smooth blue cars that go on a track that is covered the entire way. You get a behind the scenes look at Buzz Lightyear's ride and space mountain. It doesn't give any history it sort of has background sirport talk. You do pass through a place with a model of Walt's thought of the future. It is a wonderful break and vey pretty at night.

I'm sorry to hear the People Mover at Disneyland is closed. At my first Disney trip of any kind back in 1972 at Disneyland, the People Mover was my favorite ride. I really enjoyed sitting back and watching Tomorrow Land pass by. The highlight of the ride was seeing the EPCOT model at COP. Space Mountain had not been built yet.
Now, when I make my annual trip to Disney World, the TTA is always on my list of "must-do's" It is very similar, if not at one time a replica of the People Mover Ride. Quite honestly, I did not even notice the differences you listed in your post. But it's still a nice relaxing ride, with a great view of SM and never a line of any kind.

I've never been on the DL peoplemover but I have a video of it. DL's was run by individual wheels in the track and was outside with each car covered. MK's TTA (formerly also called the PeopleMover) has a roof over everything, mostly goes just through tomorrowland and runs on magnets to propel it forward.

I love TTA, you see inside Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear and the original EPCOT display model plus some other miscellaneous things

The TTA was such a pleasant surprise for us. My four year old and I were waiting while his big brothers and dad went on Space Mountain, and I noticed there was NO line at all for the TTA, so, I told my husband we were going to ride that, while we waited.

My four year old was thrilled with this ride, and told his dad that he had to do it too, while I got my turn on Space Mountain.

We actually saw the rest of the family waiting inside space moutain while we were on the TTA. fun fun fun.

You wouldn't enjoy it if you were stuck (for 45 mins) which happened to us a few weeks ago. No one came to 'rescue' us - just lots of announcements telling us the ride had stopped (like we didn't know :confused3 and to stay in our seats). In the end we just climbed out and found our own way out :goodvibes

The TTA has long been one of my 15 yo dd's favorite rides. We like to get a bucket of popcorn and a drink and stay on a couple of times around. We wave to our fellow riders and love to say, "Mr. Morrow. Paging Mr. Tom Morrow. Your party from Saturn has arrived. Please give them a ring." :rotfl2:

Wow, thats gotta be a rare thing to happen, the TTA is one of the most reliable rides ever made at Disney

Thanks! :goodvibes

Did I hear right, did the lady in the car with the person filming say "Turn that camera off"? :confused3

I'm not sure I'm hearing it right, but it seems like she says something like, "They have hidden cameras in these things?"

Anyone else catch what she says?

Oh, and if you're interested in nostalgic bits of Disney transportation, that same person ("ParkHopper") has videos of the Skyway rides. Heres the URL to the Disneyland one, but on the same page are links to the ones for the Magic Kingdom: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3uaLlkg4Dhk&mode=related&search=

It's one of our favorites also.

We too have been known to sneak popcorn and other snacks onboard. ;)

Oops, I was so caught up in figuring out what that lady was saying that I never answered your question. I actually went to look at the video so that I could compare, because I've only been on the one at Disney World.

It looks like the one at DL is/was a much longer ride. The one in MK at WDW is just in Tomorrowland, but it is really great. My family loves to ride it every time we go to Disney. It is pretty much all indoor, except for the loading area which is kind of like an escalator in the middle of Tomorrowland. It's actually kind of strange, I guess, to have stairway up to the loading area - but I love it! Then you travel into the inner workings of Tomorrowland - very cool. You will love it! I hope. :goodvibes

Does anyone remember when the TTA was called the WEDWAY People Mover? They had a line in the schpiel about you were riding on Sunshine? I love that ride but it may have something to do with nostalgia, the kids were little and cute and blah, blah, blah.

I love this ride because it takes about 15 minutes and you just sit and relax.

I'm sure it'll be a lot of fun. It won't be the same, but on the plus side it should be a smoother ride than the one at DL.

Heck, since the one at DL is long gone, I'm just grateful there is still a people mover at WDW. (Now if only we could get them to bring back the skyway! Or, I'd settle for having access to a time travel machine. I'd go back and try out the flying saucers, which my wife rode but which were gone by the time I first went to DL.)

Anyway. :) Thanks again for easing my worry about my favorite ride.

reading this thread made me think of just how great the original soundtrack was, I wish they would bring it back.

Love this ride and for the second time, it will be under refurb on our up-coming trip!
