Tschop Chop & RPHotel

Hi all!
Got resies at Tchop on June 8th, anything I should try, or avoid to eat? Do I have a choice where to sit, etc?

Also, anything I need to know about the RPH? I am looking forward to going to the new resort! Any tips/suggestions?
I am with ALL THE POSTERS who said I think it is STUPID to pay for parking! I am sorry, Disney does not do it, Yes, pay for valet parking, but charge for parking while you pay 100-200/night?
Just increase the room by 5-6 dollars! Sorry to vent, JMHO!

Ask for one of the cool couch booths at Tchoup Chop. Kiawe Smoked Pork Ribs. Tchoup Chop's Crunchy Shrimp and Hawaiian Style Dinner Plate . We had others but I cant remember what they were! The few I remembered were yummy. Enjoy!

Ask to be away from that front door! Very bad architectual planning with that door wide open to the tables. I like to be either in a booth or in front of the open kitchen (fun to watch).
The Kobe beef short rib was to die for! Also try an original Mai Tai! Yummy.

It's too bad my DSs are not exotic food eaters. I guess we won't be going to Tchop Chop.

LOL..compare your room rates...disneys parking is built in...the room rates are twice what they are at universal resorts!

RPR is excellent!

Hey, thanks all for the tips! Will try the good food at TChop!

Well, Disney is not twice as much-all stars (6000 rooms) 49-99/nt,
carrib beach, etc moderates (4000 rooms) 149-169/night,etc, so the above statement is not true, but not a debate, just a little factoid!
Looking forward to comaring Disney and Universal, will comment when I get back and compare apples and oranges, or spidey to mouse!

I don't think the moderates and especially All-Stars can even compare to the Loew's resorts. You really have to compare them to the Deluxes. They are more in the category of YC< BC< BW & Poly. PBH is even above any Disney Deluxe. So when you're comparing Spidey with the mouse keep that in mind! <VBG>

My son is not an exotic food eater also, and we just returned from Tchoup Chop. He had the very "exotic" chicken tenders and french fries! The chicken was very good, it was tempura style but for a finicky eater they will never notice.

I had the coconut crunchy shrimp (inCREDIBLE!!) and the Emeril's fried rice which was excellent. Barry had the dumplings and a beef dish that looked like egg foo young! For dessert we had the chocolate mousse, the ooey gooey fudge brownie (kids menu) and the pineapple upside down cake.... all awesome!!

Barry and I were both confused about the bad reviews this restaurant got. This was one of the best meals I had in the whole of Universal. The food and the service was wonderful. We also loved the cool booths with the round pillow.

I agree with CPM about the comparisons. The 3 onsite Universals can only be compared to the monorail deluxe Disney resorts. The Portofino can only be compared to the Grand Floridian, IMHO, since I'm sitting here in the hotel typing this! AND I would never pay the price I paid for this room there!

here is my review of Tchoup Chop and what I had. This is an excerpt from a longer trip report

We walked over to Tchoup Chop for our dinner reservation. We were seated at a cool booth on the side of the restaurant. Our waiter was nice and suggested the Caymus Conumdrum which was complex, rich, silky, and balanced. I can only give my opinion on what I had but I thought the prices were reasonable and the food was tasty.

I started with the Tchoup Chop Salad with Baby Lettuces, Toasted Cashews, Fresh Orange, Radish Sprouts and a Creamy Soy Dressing.

Instead of an entrée I picked two appetizers for dinner. The Homemade Dumpling Box with a Fresh Pork and Ginger Filling, Hand Rolled, steamed and served with Sake Soy Dipping Sauce was delicious and the Polynesian Crab Cake with Ginger Scallion Aioli and Papaya-Serrano Salsa was good but lacked some oomph. It needed some spice or something. Dessert was the Macadamia Nut Pie served with Homemade Vanilla Bean Ice Cream. It tasted a lot like Pecan Pie except it was Macadamia nuts.
