I grind my own beans at home and just received some nice beans for Christmas Do you think there will be a problem with putting my burr grinder in my carry-on? Don't want to pack it for fear it will get damaged. Has anyone had experience with airport security & burr grinders?
I also posted this question on the Transportation Board.

TSA can do whatever they like whenever they like, but no, I don't think that'll be an issue.

Now that 4 oz of water you forgot you had in your side pocket? TROUBLE! Same with peanut butter, jams etc.:sad2:

You can call the TSA customer service number or tweet the question to them. I've called in the past when I wasn't sure if a birthday cake would be considered terrorist contraband and was told it was fine (and it was no problem, unlike the scary toothpaste I was planning on using to hijack the plane with my super fresh breath...:scared:).

Thank you for your help. I have never been a great flyer, but I find getting through security is getting to be a major stress. Like when I has a sunburn and my pain relieving aloe gel was seized.(Does that stuff even come in a small bottle?)

I think it might, but if not then you Can just buy an empty container and fill from the full size.

Just decant it.

Or check it.

For me, I would grind the coffee ahead of time and put it into an airtight container. I wouldn't bother with the grinder. Just one thing to possibly forget to pack back up.

I agree, I have left things behind and they are never found.

I flew to London for Christmas with a full size kitchen aid mixer in my carry on luggage. TSA was curious and wanted to inspect it but was fine with it. They swabbed it for bomb making materials and joked with me about it.
