TSA and shoes in carryon

I wear LL Bean "Croc-like" shoes to travel...easy on, easy off. But I'll have athletic shoes in my carryon. It's one of those things I don't want in my checked bags on the off chance my luggage gets lost (it's happened more than once, temporarily). Can't run around Disney in my LL Bean's.

Do you think they need to be taken out (they'll be in shoe bags too) and put on the security belt? I'd rather not have to fuss with stuff when it's my turn, but if I have an idea either way, I'll plan accordingly.

TIA

I had two pairs of running shoes in my carryon on the 4th and there was no issue. We take them off our feet to put them through the X-ray machine because we would object to having our whole bodies put through it. :). Shoes in a bag are already going through the machine. No issues.

:confused3

Why would you think shoes have to be removed from bags? Just curious.

You can always check the TSA website for the rules. You should check it out before your flight.

I imagine because we take off our shoes to go through the scanner. Very few people think of 'why' we have to take them off...nothing scanning under our feet!!! At least that's what I was told.

Or perhaps because some folks don't realize that shoes are only dangerous when on feet. ;)

Just stupid? :confused3 Because it's different than what I've ever done, and it's pretty simple to just throw the question out there on the DIS, to be answered or not answered? :confused3 (Thanks bumbershoot!) Because there have been other incidences where we've had to take things out of our carryons for them to look at when the xray machine wasn't "good enough"? :confused3 Because I'm going to pack accordingly and my shoes will be at the bottom of the bag if I don't need to take them out? :confused3 I'm guessing my first answer works for you!

But thanks for the helpful suggestion to read the TSA website. :thumbsup2 Who knew there were other sources of information outside of the DIS! ;)
