I like both of these restaurants. I'm a foodie and we eat at V&A, Bistro, JIKO, etc. However, there are times, especially at Disney, when you just gotta have fun. I think both of these restaurants are "fun". The food is okay, not great, better than counter service at MGM. Sci-Fi, depending on the ages of your children, could be difficult. You sit in little cars, two people to a seat, rather than tables. If you have two children, you could either split the parents and sit one with each child or if your kids are old enough, you could set them in front of you. The burgers are okay; I've had better. The milkshakes are very good. And I just love the environment in there. A lot of dissers say that if you have very small children, this is not a place you want to go. I go adults-only so can't help with that.
50's Prime Time. It's very noisy and very "busy". If your children are young and startle easily, you might want to skip. The food is okay, again, not great. Think homemade-not restaurant. Meat loaf, pot roast, fried chicken. The servings are huge. I think we've had green beans every time we've been there. I think it's an okay place for finicky eaters because the food is somewhat plain.
There's also the Brown Derby at MGM. It's a little more upscale but there are certainly children there.
Hope this helps.
