My sister & her family are visiting WDW in October(staying at POP). There are 6 adults & one child. They are on the Basic dining plan. My sister doesn't want to make an ADR on their arrival day. They are arriving early & visiting EPCOT later that day. Well they don't want to use their TS credit but instead use it at a QS at EPCOT to free up time. If they would use a QS credit at POP (for Example) for an early lunch then later in the evening use their TS credit for a QS meal at EPCOT they could do that, correct? She is OK using TS credits at QS dining places.

Last I heard is... "Sometimes"

I'm not sure how it's been lately, so take this with a large grain of salt, but typically it was much easier to trade down at the resort than elsewhere (especially a resort without a TS option).

Also, your sister does not have to use 1QS and 1TS each day. She can use that TS some other day of the week. She will get x QS and x TS credits right at check in, where x is the number of nights they are staying. These can be used in any order and any amount* as she sees fit.

*This means that she can use up to x number of meals per person as she sees fit. There is a limit on the credits used at a single meal which is based on the party make up. For example, if she were traveling with a party of 2 adults and 2 children, she could spend up to 2 adult credits and 2 child credits at a single meal.

For example, she can easily do 2 QS on that arrival day, and then have 2 TS on the same day later in the week. That is perfectly acceptable. If she does not wish to do this, then it is usually up to the restaurant itself whether to trade down in this manner.

Yes, you can use TS credits for a CS meal. It is specifically stated in the 2012 dining plan pdf. It is not the best use of a TS credit, but it is allowed.

Thanks for the replies. Yes I was just checking on myself if I told my sister the right info about the dining plan. She did decide to make a dinner ADR at Via Napoli. I told her just think of it as insurance. You have the ADR if everyone gets busy or they don't want a big meal they don't "Have" to go to their ADR on their first night. They don't lose the credit. She is nervous the first time staying on-site with a lot of people & keeping everything straight.

Can you point out where it says that? I cannot find it and have not heard of being able to do this for years.

I can't find where it says it either. In fact, in the FAQ section it asks if guests can trade a QS or TS meal for a snack and it says no. But I have been able to turn extra meal credits into snacks at my resort (POR). I would think you aren't supposed to technically, but they have the ability to.

The only time I heard of this being allowed was years ago when free dining first came out and people could not get into restaurants. They made concessions at that time.

It took me awhile but I found the 2012 brouchure where it says you can use a TS for a QS.

(I keep trying to post the site I found it on but it won't post. It's travel with the magic. com / 2012Dining.pdf (with no spacing)

If you choose, you may use your Table-Service entitlements at
Quick-Service locations.

This 2012 brochure is dated 110211

However on the current brochure (42512) this verbage is no longer listed under SOME GREAT TIPS!

So this is a very recent change to the DDP. There have been other threads that have mentioned the trading of TS for QS.

That is really interesting. I would guess that must have been another one of the typos they had with this brochure since it isn't there anymore. There was another discovered in the last week or so regarding appetizers.

Sigh...I have the earlier version of the 2012 pdf printed out so it was under the "Some Great Tips" section. Maybe they found that with the new cc guarantee it's gotten easier to get TS reservations so Disney decided they don't have to offer this option. Sorry, I got your hopes up. :sad1:

To be fair, I think they just cut + paste a lot of stuff from the Deluxe Dining Plan brochure. And the credits on the Deluxe Plan are setup to be valid for Quick Service or Table Service.

That said, as others said, you can try asking at the resort if they can help you out. I can't imagine it being a big deal to Disney, since it just means you are paying more money for a quick service meal.

We've done this every time we go, however we've only ever tried at whatever resort we're staying at. Contempo Cafe, Pop food court, ASMo food court ect.

I'd make sure that she knows that she doesn't have to use 1 ts, 1cs, 1 snack every day. She'll get a pool of however many credits she's entitled to and then will be able to use them whenever she'd like.

I was surprised to find this change also in the newest brochure. We are also a family who doesn't want to do use that many TS credits so free dining isn't the most ideal for us. We tried to use a TS meal credit to get a CS ham and cheese croissant meal in France at Epcot Nov 2011 and CM said she didn't have any way on her register to use a TS meal; it had to be CS or OOP. At resorts we have been able to use TS for CS.

The brochure also makes it clear that CS and TS cannot be redeemed for snacks. We are one of the many who grab snacks for the plane when checking out to use up left over credits of any type. Wonder if they are really enforcing this part??

just thought i would share with you that i just called and talked with a CM named Ivan and he said that you may use your TS credits at the CS locations still. always easier to trade down. hope it helps :)

From almost everything I've read they are enforcing this. Bummer as we used it many times last Fall (as you can read in my QSDP report) However recently someone posted that they were able to convert 6 CS to 18 SC at their resort (forget which one). But this was done by the manager. They didn't ask for it they were just trying to use up their CS on their last day and having trouble getting items they could take with. The manager overheard and said they could use CS for 3 SC. Unfortunately I wouldn't plan on this until we read that more have done it. I guess it wouldn't hurt if you really wanted to do it to ask to speak to the manager. As PP have said, I would expect Disney to do it as it really is a trade down on $$

Officially the only snack type thing you can get for a CS is a true Continental Combo-1 pastry, 1 fruit, and 1 beverage. We enjoyed getting 3 sundaes at POP last year for 1 CS.;)

If she is getting a QS meal they will just take off the amount of QS she has used you can use TS and QS in any order you want (or can use all meals in one day if one wanted to) but would keep the TS for a better meal later IMO. Is she on basic QS plan or the Magic your Way dining with one TS and one QS and a snack?

We were there during free dining in November and I spoke w/ the concierge about using a TS credit at a QS venue and they told me that as long as I only had TS credits left (in other words I had already used all my QS credits) then they would honor the TS credit at any QS location. We had no problem using our last TS credits at a QS restaurant in the Magic Kingdom. I hope this will still be the case when we go this fall.

I have a printed version of the regular dining plan for 2012 and it does state you can swap a TS meal for CS meal. Not sure if they fixed that or not. We are on the QSDP but are thinkink of upgrading to CBR.

But a new one has since been printed and distributed where that statement is not included, right?
