Does anyone know...

If, by some chance, table service meals could also be used as counter service meals, under the dining plans?

Just wondered, on the off chance that's how things worked out for us at the end of the week.

Thanks a bunch!

If you're on the deluxe dining plan - then yes, meal credits can be used for either table service or counter service. If you have the regular dining plan, then the short answer is no, they don't convert. you can't take your card to a counter service place & have them just automatically be able to swap the table service credit for a counter service credit -- they just can't do it.

The long answer is, it can happen, it just depends on when & where you are. If you're at your hotel, the concierge desk may be able to convert remaining table service to counter service for you...people have reported success with that. But they traded the meals straight up one-for-one. Which isn't a very good deal since table meals are worth quite a bit more than counter service. If you don't have time for a table meal, though, better to get some meal value, right?

And, during Free Dining the last two years, there has been a shortage of available seats at table service restaurants so they have allowed people to convert table meals for a counter service & something else. First year, was counter service & trinkets like a pin lanyard& couple of pins. Last year, you could convert for counter service & 2 snacks OR counter service and a Disney mesh tote bag.

Thank you for that great answer catne!! I have been keeping my fingers crossed for the ability to do that exact thing. Our arrival day I want to trade TS for CS, and really hope for some added benifit, preferably snack credits, since we really do use a lot of them with no trouble. Sure, we lose some money savings, but it's all free so there is really no loss!!

Thanks again for the great info, and thanks OP for asking the question!

Be advised that last year I believe the deal was that during free dining you could trade a table service credit for a counter meal plus two snacks (I think it was two). However, you did not receive two snack credits to use anywhere at any time. You received the two snacks along with the counter meal, at the same place you bought the counter meal.

No telling until Disney announces the 2009 policy whether or not it will be the same this year.

We were at DW last September and I traded almost all of my TS for CS and it was simple to do. I just went to the ordering podium and told them of my wish, ordered my CS meals and then they gave me a voucher for two snacks (per meal) that I later used at Goofy's and food court. It was done so smoothly that I am guessing it was something that was often done. It worked for the way that we wanted to eat and we ended up with three snacks a day so we could enjoy iced teas without feeling we were wasting snacks credits. I do not think I would have wanted to do this if we had paid for the DP though.

Actually Concierge cannot "convert" TS to CS. I asked them to do this in December when my daughter was ill causing us to miss our TS that night. What they told us to do was go to the CS, order our meals, and let the cashier know that we were using our TS as a CS and they did that without a problem, no questions asked. We didn't get anything extra for the trade but we would have been stuck paying for dinner OOP so we were happy.

We have also converted TS to CS during FD and have received the CS meal + something extra. One year it was vouchers for 2 extra snacks (as mentioned above we did not have to redeem them immediately, but we did have to keep them stapled to the CS receipt and show the CS receipt upon redemption), one year it was a lanyard.

I love the new QSDP and mostly because of my circumstances. I have worked hard to lose a lot of weight and do not eat as much as I once did. I do not like to eat when I am not hungry and trying to figure out when I am going to be hungry months in advance is silly not to mention having to be at a certain place at a certain time to dine AND having to pay a tip that is often more than I would pay for an entire meal back home (Hey, I live in the Midwest and we are not big spenders) .:rotfl:

If I get the FD in December, which is rumored to be the regular DP, I surely do hope that they continue to allow me to trade TS for CS.

This would not work for those who love the TS places but that is what makes Disney special, something for everyone!:cool1:

This was not our experience. In Sept '07 and Sept '08 we were given a coupon for 2 snacks. We did not have get them right away. Actually last year we waited for the last day of our trip to use them at DTD Goofy's Candy. But this is only done during free dining. Since I am not a huge ADR maker, this has always worked out great for us.
