Hey!

My sister and her boyfriend have a package w/ free dining for the last week of August at Pop Century. After some discussion, they have decided that they may want to upgrade to the Wilderness Lodge. My sister called this morning and was told in a really "abrupt" way that there were no resorts available during those dates. The dates they have right now is August 21-25th, is it really that crowded that late in August?

It stinks first to have no availbility, but it stinks twice as much when the cast member is pretty rude. Now I know there is nothing they can do, but the tone of someones voice can really ruin the moment.

My sisters boyfriend saw the planning DVD and at first was joking that Pop Century looks like a Seaside Heights (NJ) hotel. He said he was only joking but my sister wants him to enjoy the trip so that sparked the upgrade decision.

Personally, my parents and I REALLY enjoyed ourselves at Pop Century last year so go figure.

I believe the free dining package ended for bookings on Sunday, so I do not think they would be able to switch resorts at this time.

Call back and ask the exact same questions. You'll undoubtedly get another CRO CM, and you just might find the answers to be different. For our upcoming vacation, I was told there were no rooms available in the resort/range I was looking for. I politely said thanks anyways, hung up the phone and called right back and got exactly what I was looking for in the first place!

Good luck!

As someone who has spent time at both Seaside Heights and Pop Century, please be assured there are very few similarities! We love Pop Century. We've stayed at all the resort levels, and Pop Century is definitely on our "A" list (it's actually number 2, right after Port Orleans Riverside). In spite of many comments here, we found Pop to be reasonably quiet, very comfortable, transportation to the parks was great, and it's just a fun place to be!

Seaside Heights motels, on the other hand, are very RARELY quiet, not always comfortable, and transportation to places like the Magic Kingdom...well, there just isn't any! Since we started going to WDW, we have never stayed at Seaside Heights again. Of course we live full-time at the Jersey Shore now!

We tried to upgrade our POrt Oleans for Aug 27-Sept 03 as well to the Polyasian or The Willderness, but there is no avaiabiliy as well. You CAN switch resort and still get the dinng package.

Recently when I have phone Disney the CM seem to be less friendly, which really ruins things for me as well. Hope you get to switch resort maybe you can try one of the moderate resort. :)

Weren't the rooms with the free dining limited? It may not mean that the resort is booked, just the free dining packages.

I believe nowellsl is correct...I think the package is what is limited, I doubt the resorts themselves are packed.

Not being able to upgrade may just be timing because of the free dining, I switched from POR to Poly on Sunday (two days ago) for 8/16 - 8/23. But we are also on the Premium Plan which may have made a difference too.

You might want to try calling again and see if you have better luck talking to a different person.

Please let us know what happens! I am wanting to upgrade my free dining package to CSR, but right now all the rooms are blocked (convention). CRO told me at 45 days out, all the unused rooms will be put back into the system. But of course, the free dining plan offer will be expired by then (or is right now). I'm curious to know if it will be possible to upgrade to another resort but keep the free dining package.

Give us an update if you call back!!

Also, while I am not defending a rude CM, understand that there is a LOT of pressure on the reservation CM's right now. They are under a new "metric" to sell so much per hour, and if they don't...they can be fired. I have heard this is happening quite frequently now.

The way WDW sets up it's metrics, upgrading someone from one resort to another does not give any $$$ to the CM's hourly requirement, so if they are going to keep their jobs, they have to make upgrade phone calls as short as possible.

It's sad that WDW is resorting to this, in a time when travel is SOOO up!!! But, please....try not to blame the CM for this.
