Trying to understand holding pts.

How do I book with pts. in a holding acct. and can I still rent these?

If a reservation is cancelled within 30 days of arrival, the points used are returned to the account as "Holding Account" points. These points may only be used to make another reservation within 60 days of arrival and cannot be banked into the next Use Year.

They could be used - with the stated restriction - to make a reservation and that reservation could be rented to someone else.

Just purchased a couple of resale contracts, and after all the reservations we can make (just don't have any other days we can go) for this use year, I am left with 10 points - 6 banked '06 points and 4 "holding" points. These all came as kind of a bonus, so I am not totally bummed about not being able to use them - but I had thought I could give them away. MS says no, that you can only transfer current use year points that are not otherwise encumbered. Is this correct...I cannot give these points to someone who can use them?

That's correct, holding points cannot be transferred.

Likewise, banked or borrowed points cannot be transferred either, nor can Reservation points be transferred. (Reservation points are DVC points that are converted when you make a reservation at a non-DVC resort, which you later cancel.)

you could make a 1 night reservation for someone in a studio at one of the resorts like OKW for Sept and then you would only lose two points. They might be able to link that with a reservation they already have.
