For Disney trips of the past, the planning was a big part of the fun. This time around? I'm just tired. Like many of you, this trip was paid for and cancelled 2 times. Originally planned to celebrate my DS college graduation, I am determined to make this happen. No Disney hotel perks ? Disappointing. Park reservations? Made. Now I'm planning to get up at 3:00am tomorrow so we have a place to sit down for dinner at his favorite place. Sheesh. After that is settled, I'll try to figure out this crazy new player - Genie. The planning this time around is just stressful - not fun. I am determined to remain cheerful and positive when we get to the park, but all of this is a game changer for me.
Anyway, we haven't seen anything that has been added in the last 5 years, so that will be fun. Does anyone have any movie ideas that we should check out before we arrive? DH hasn't seen any of the Avenger films yet, so we have some catching up to do!

There's so many movies but as a start:
  • Cars (Cars Land)
  • Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens (Galaxy's Edge)
  • Incredibles 2 (Incredicoaster)
  • Toy Story (Midway Mania and others)
  • Spider Man: Homecoming (Web Slingers)
  • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1
  • Dumbo (Casey Jr and others)
  • Finding Nemo (Turtle talk with Crush)
  • Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark
  • Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
  • Song of the South (Splash Mountain)
Avengers Campus shows: Black Panther, Black Widow, Dr. Strange

There's also quite a few rides with the name of the movie in the title.

PhilharMagic segments: Beauty and the Beast, Fantasia, Coco, The Lion King, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Peter Pan

To fully appreciate Avengers Campus and Star Tours, you should also watch all the Marvel and Star Wars non-animated movies and series. You may also want to watch all the Disney princess movies as the characters are quite common.

Extra credit:
  • Redwood Creek Challenge Trail: Brother Bear, Up
  • Mr. Toad's Wild Ride: The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad
  • Semi-common characters: Zootopia, Mary Poppins, the Aristocats, A Goofy Movie
  • Rarer characters: Onward, A Bug's Life, Up, Lilo & Stitch

If you haven’t seen the new Disney Star Wars movies (force awakens last Jedi rise of skywalker) I suggest watching those so Galaxy’s Edge will have some context. I would do that before trying to watch all the Marvel movies. If you only have time to watch just one Marvel movie watch the first Avengers movie.

I know that Genie and reservations and all the changes are frustrating but I think if you manage your expectations a little and flexible you will have a great trip. There’s so much new stuff for you to see. Hope this helps

Hiiiii @gelatoni fan gave you an awesome list!

Just popped by to say, that I think you’re going to have a fabulous time. There is still so much magic at the DLR. Enjoy!!

The increase in the urgency of dining reservations are definitely annoying! I've lucked out with a few reservations without getting up at 3:00 am, but I know I'm in the minority. When you're looking for reservations, make sure you're looking at times versus meals; you'll often get options that don't show up otherwise. So, look up, say, 11:30 am instead of using the "lunch" option. (Nothing much usually shows up on that "lunch" tab.)

Genie is getting mixed reviews. Look for "Fresh Baked" on YouTube. David (the guy behind Fresh Baked) just did a review of a day following the suggestions of Genie. It was fairly disastrous! He didn't get several of the rides that he told the program were "must do", and it had him running back and forth through the park. It also had him pass right by some of those "must do" attractions on the way to ones he didn't care about doing.

He's also done a review of the Genie+ system, which is like the new MaxPass if you had used that in the past. The rules are a little different-- you have to buy the day of your visit. It's only good for one ride at each attraction, so, for example, you can't use it to go on Indy multiple times in a day. Frustrating since my family loves re-rides on Indy every day! And then there's a few rides you have to pay a separate fee to use the Lightning Lane. But otherwise, I believe he said it functions and looks a lot like the old digital MaxPass system.

Anyway, we haven't seen anything that has been added in the last 5 years, so that will be fun.

Enjoy Galaxy's Edge, even if you haven't seen the movies. It's amazing, and definitely feels like you are "off world" and not at Disneyland any more!
