Just working on a budget visit. Will use hotel points for some nights but interested in possibly camping on the Cape. Any campground recommendations? Would like to be near the National Seashore and walk to beach but not a deal breaker. Possibly 3 nights midweek third week in July. I know I'm late booking but you never know. Could also do cottages or hotel rooms/motel rooms. Have been to the cape before and stayed in Hampton Inn in Yarmouth most recently - like 3 years ago. Prior to that...places I don't really remember.

We don't camp so I can't help you there, but we stayed in South Yarmouth at the Surfcomber. Big rooms right on the beach. It is an older place, but well kept. The pool was nice even though it was cold and rainy when we were there. That was in late June so you should have better weather.

There is a campground in Truro and you can walk to head of the meadow beach from there but I can't think of the name.

I love the Truro area, you can go to the bay or to the National Seashore and you are so close to P-town when you want to do touristy stuff.
The only thing that stinks about getting there is the traffic.
We've never camped just because it takes us so long to drive there that we don't want to deal with setting up when we go. I've rented cottages but whenever I've looked they were weekly rentals.

There is also a winery in Truro that does tastings! A tip on beach trips, if you arrive after 5 PM you don't have to pay for parking. I find this a great time to pack a picnic supper and wind down and still enjoy the beach. :)

Thank you for the replies! Especially interested in the winery...love stopping at wineries and have already thought about a couple as I pass through the Newport - Middletown area of RI. If they are still operating that is....

We like to camp at Nickerson State Park in Brewster, but at this point it might be tough to get a reservation. You might luck out though. Shady Knoll up the road from Nickerson is nice too. Its a little more pricey than Nickerson, but you might find availability. Both camp grounds are near the bike trails. One of our favorite restaurants in Brewster is an open air restaurant called Cobbies. Great onion rings.

In Eastham is Atlantic Oaks campground the beginning of National Seashore can not walk to the beach. my sister stayed there nice, campsites close together, recently renovated We have a place in Eastham so I love the area quiet but close to Orleans for shopping.

The wine is actually less expensive in the stores then the truro winery!

We camp quite a bit on the cape.

There are a ton of campgrounds on the outer cape near the national seashore but is only one campground that is walk to beach in the region of the National Seashore; North of Highlands Campground in Truro. It is nice and about a 15 minute walk to Head of the Meadow Beach in the National Seashore but the beach is not the best. They have a playground and rec room for the kids but neither are fancy, just simple and functional.

Our really close to the National Seashore preferred campground however is in P-town, and it's called Dune's Edge. They are mostly tent sites. There are very few amenities in this campground beyond the showers but the proximity to the National Seashore beaches and Provincetown is great and the sites are clean and reasonably well maintained.

There are a couple of other campgrounds near Marconi Beach and Nauset Beach but they primarily cater to the camper crowd and since we strictly tent camp we have never stayed at them. Maurice's is supposed to be nice.

Be aware that on the outer cape - P-town, Truro, Wellfleet, Eastham there are no campfires allowed in any of the campgrounds - no open flame of any kind because of the fire risk. So you must have a camp stove to cook at your site. You can have a fire on the town beaches and possibly on the national seashore but you have to get a permit the morning you plan to have your fire. Last time we got one the permit in Truro cost $5. You must bring a shovel with you to bury your coals after the fire is out.

If you are looking to have a campfire and still be in close proximity to national seashore beaches then Nickerson State Park in Brewster may be a good option. My kids just went camping there this past weekend. The campground is very clean and the mom on the trip said that the bathrooms were clean. They have a camp store and a pond. The also have direct access to the Cape Cod Rail Trail Bike Path which goes from Dennis to Wellfleet and passes thru the National Seashore. ETA - my kids were staying at Nickerson for a Boy Scout Bike trip. From camping area 7 (the farthest back in the park) it is 3.8 miles by bike to the CCRT and then just over 10 miles to Marconi Beach on the CCRT and then 2.9 mi to the actual beach.

There is also Sweetwater in Brewster. I live on the Cape so if you have any other specific questions let me know, I dont know a lot about camping, but our friends camp there when they come and like it.

Hi, YES they are still operating. :) Google Coastal Wine Trail of Southeastern New England. It includes Massachusetts and Rhode Island wineries. I was just at Sakonnet Vineyard yesterday, just BEAUTIFUL!! And owned by Carolyn Rafaelian (founder of Alex and Ani) Joan

I have been wanting to camp at the Cape too and a Place called Peter's Pond RV Resort looks appealing to me. Not walking distance to the ocean though.
