Trying to figure out QS

I know this probably sounds silly to most of you, but this will be my first Disney trip. Please bear with me.

DD and I will be in the World in September 2012, so quite a ways away. Anyway, I've gotten quotes on the QS plan, which I think will serve us best during our week at Disney. I was looking at the list of restaurants that accept the QS plan, and I was wondering how meals that state an entree plus side, such as fries or mashed potatoes, etc. corresponds to the plan? I know it states one entree plus dessert and drink. I also know you can substitute a combo for a drink (at least that's what I took from it.) So, if I order an entree with fries or whatever, does that mean I have to pay out of pocket for a drink? Or can I use other QS points for my drink?

It's all a bit confusing for a newbie. Thanks for any replies, as I'm sure I sound silly trying to figure this all out.

For one QS credit you get an entree, which consists of your meal(sandwich, burger, chicken etc...) and usually some sort of side(fries, apple slices etc...), along with that you get a desert and a drink.

Thank you so much. I keep worrying about every little dollar spent. I know it's silly, but I just want to make sure I know what we're getting. Thanks again. :)

It's one entree OR combo meal, one dessert (except breakfast - you just don't get the dessert entitlement with breakfast), and one drink. Sides are not included unless they come with the entree. If the menu says "burger with fries" the fries are included. If it says "burger" and you purchase the fries separately, the fries are not covered.

Children's meals usually consist of one entree and they can choose two sides - but one of those sides counts as dessert if the child wants dessert. They also include a beverage.

Okay, that makes sense. I really want to double check everything.

The only thing that confuses me is that the 2012 QS plan says that it only covers lunch and dinner. If it covers breakfast, that's awesome, but I want to make sure it does first.

Copied from the 2012 brochure: (had to reformat a little though).
2012 QSDP brochure said:
Each Quick-Service Meal includes one (1) single serving:
FOR BREAKFAST
  • Entrée
  • Non-alcoholic beverage
FOR LUNCH/DINNER
  • Entrée
  • Dessert
  • Non-alcoholic beverage
(--Source--)

Not sure where you get that it doesn't include breakfast? Unless you mean that it only covers 2 meals per night of stay instead of 3?

Oh okay, it applies to two meals, which can include breakfast. Thanks, I was getting quotes on Dreams Unlimited, and it said lunch and dinner, so I wanted to double check.

Just a word of caution to check in to this a little further.

With the 2012 QSDP you get two meals, one snack, and the refillable mug for $35/day. That means to break even on the money, you need to "spend" about $15 at each meal which you can do with drinks and desserts at each meal. But if you're not a big dessert eater, you may want to do OOP. You'll also want to really research the counter service menus to know where you may want to eat to maximize your credits.
