Hi there!
We are cruising the Dream on August 15. We will be in the Orlando area for a few days before the cruise, staying with family, but decided to stay the night before our cruise at a DVC resort. The only problem is, we aren't sure WHERE to stay!
Our home resorts are BLT and AKL, so we've stayed there before. We are looking for somewhere with a kid friendly pool (8 & 12), and plenty of space...we will probably go with either a 1 or 2 bedroom.
Any suggestions are welcome!
When I did a search for availability, BWV comes up for a 1 or 2 bedroom, SSR has a 1 bedroom, and OKW has a 1 bedroom...and then BLT or AKL.
Thanks in advance! :)
PS...we WON'T be doing the parks, so transportation to them isn't an issue. We will probably hit DTD that evening.

I would say SSR or OKW if you're not doing parks but are doing DTD! You can walk to DTD from SSR! :)

We recently had a pre-cruise stay at OKW and were very happy we chose it. The nice tropical vibe definitely got us in the right frame of mind. And we enjoyed taking the boat to DTD (we also didn't do parks.)

We spent one night at WDW years ago before our cruise. We picked BLT because:
a) I'd always wanted to stay at the CR, but never had
b) Our one meal at WDW choice was Kona Cafe and we knew transportation would be easy (Monorail there and a boat and a short walk back)
c) We liked the look of the pool and splash area for the kid
d) It gave us a great view of the MK fireworks from the Top of the World Lounge
e) We had also booked Chef Mickey's for our pre-cruise breakfast (which we ended up canceling, but was a good easy option)

If the cruise is the main focus of your vacation and you're trying to minimize points for the one night stay, then SSR and OKW will best suit your needs. And as someone else already mentioned, the decor/setting at OKW will set the mood for your cruise very nicely.

We were on the Dream in January and chose OKW for the day before and after the cruise. As mentioned that resort will put you in the mood. Also a plus for us was that OKW was the first stop for the ME and the last for the Disney cruise transportation (opposite on way back so not stopping at a bunch of resorts). Not sure if we were lucky or if thats the norm. We plan to do the same when we do the Dream again in February! Also the boat ride to DTD felt like a ride to our kids and not just another bus trip!

I think a one night stay is a good chance to try a resort that your not sure you may like. For me, that was old key west before my cruise in April. I never wanted to go there and boy was I pleasantly surprised. It was so nice, large rooms and very layed back. Now i will go back for a longer stay.

I would do BWV and then book the Cape May breakfast with the family to get in the mood for the cruise. The Disney characters are dressed in their beachy finest. That's what we do if we're all together at WDW the night before the cruise!

Big fan of BWV, but they offer some of the worst busses to DTD if you are relying on them.
