Trying to buy 25 pts direct from Disney at BCV

I'm trying to buy 25 points direct from Disney to add to my BCV contract purchased resale. That would give me the perfect amount of points and grant me all the direct Disney benefits. I have called Disney three times and each time they say they do not have enough points to sell me. The most they have is 10 points but there is a 25 point min. They are going to see if Disney will make an exception to sell me 10 only. I hope they do!!

Anyone have any experience with Disney allowing less than 25 points to be purchased from them directly?

I recently saw three 15 point contracts listed for Aluani. Guess it is possible.

Yes I saw those too James. In fact I looked into buying them and I was told that the title insurance fee in Hawaii was $1,300 and that was why they had been on the market for so long. I hope my DVC sales rep comes through for me and I am able to buy direct at the 10 points.

I was told that Disney is increasing their ROFR take backs and that they will be increasing the minimums. If 25 points would be better for you I would push to get on the waiting list.

I tried that Bill but I was told the waitlist have been closed for Beach Club, Grand Floridian and Grand Californian. They said it is because these are small resorts from an availability standpoint and points are rarely available.

You can take the 10 points or you can wait and try back. They've also done 25 over more than one UY, I'd recommend against taking that deal. If they'll do the 10 points without closing, I'd go for it otherwise I'd wait.

Ask for a different guide, mine says he looks everyday for VGF points. But he could be just humoring me.....

I'd be thrilled with the 10 Pts. The biggest reason I am looking to add on is to buy some from Disney direct to get the benefits I lost by buying my 250 Pts through resale. If I can get that with a 10 Pts purchase opposed to 25 points at $165 per point that is a win for me.

Who knows. I am just hoping to get any points to gain the benefits of a direct purchase from Disney. In my mind ten points is even better than 25 if it comes with the benefits. If I need more points later I can get those through resale.

I agree but a non BCV contract isn't the end of the world though you should be able to get the other at some point.

Good point. If they are willing to sell me a non BVC contract for 25 points with an April use year that sort of solves my non Disney point problem. Especially since most of our stays are preferred at Grand Floridian and we book at seven months.

So, this never occured to me till reading our thread. IF you buy BCV or any of the non-current resorts direct from Disney --- how do you find out the going rate? AND more importantly, since you bought them direct, you get the full benefits ?

If you buy direct you currently get the retail benefits even at 25 points. That could change either as a VIP program, if they raise the minimum or if they simply change the amount that qualifies. I'd suspect the middle chord is the most likely.

Yes exactly. I see someone posted a link for going rates. The $165 for BCV points was shared by the sales guide I spoke to today.

I bought 25 pts direct at BCV last October (about 10 mths ago) No waiting, my guide had my use yr available and it took about 10 minutes on the phone. The points were in my account that same evening. Total cost with closing was $4100.

Tried again today by calling the sales number and they said they are in the process of requesting a supervisor approval to sell me the 10 points as BCV points come up so infrequently. I told them time is of the essence as my wife is chomping at the bit to spend the extra money we have put aside for this purchase. They laughed and told me they know how that goes. Hoping to hear later today the request for an exception has been granted.

Just heard back from one of the sales people that they cannot sell less than 25 points. Candidly it seems as though it is luck of the draw and who you find to speak to at DVC. There have clearly been exceptions in the past with smaller contracts as you can see them on the secondary market. The rep said they would let me know if they were able to piece together 25 points anytime soon but I must say I am disappointed they have points less than 25 available but are not willing to sell them.

If I had bought my contract a year earlier on the secondary market I would have been grandfathered in and not need to purchase more points to get the direct buy Disney benefits.

but I must say I am disappointed they have points less than 25 available but are not willing to sell them.

They want you to buy the "live" resorts they're currently selling (AUL, PVB, and CCV). They'd rather not even deal with the sold-out resorts. ROFR and selling add-ons is more of a service to owners than anything, and they definitely don't want to sell a 10-15 point contract just to give you perks. Aulani is taking forever to sell so that's probably why rules were bent there. I wouldn't be surprised to see the minimum raised, especially for those that don't hold a qualifying (for perks) direct-purchase contract.

That may seem harsh, but remember, it's only a business. DVD will do what's best for it's bottom line, and nothing more.

For sure Scuba. I totally expected to have to buy the 25 points....they just got my hopes up yesterday when they made it sound like they would grant me an exception to buy 10 points. I will wait a few days to see if they change their minds, then look to add on 25 points anywhere as long as it has an April use year.
