We have been to disney 3 times and always booked package with virgin. Thought this time we would have a go at sorting ourselves out. Wanted to use flying club points therefore need to book that bit direct with virgin atlantic. Then we plan to book direct with disney.
Help needed on reassurance that others have done this?
How does travel insurance work if you haven't booked everything at one place?
Do we need to book tickets and room to be able to then purchase dining plan, (think we have to book all these at the same time) ?
Any other hints, tips or thoughts welcome
Thanks

You should have no problems booking direct with Disney, and should save quite a bit as well :)

Another option would be to use the DIS travel agents - DreamsUnlimited
They will make you booking for you, make you dining reservations for you, even plan your stay if you like :) You are assigned you own agent who will not only make you reservation, but also keep an eye out for any discount codes that may become available and will apply the discounts to your booking. All this at no extra cost to you :)

You can book room only, dining plan and/or park tickets all separately, it's up to you :)

As for travel insurance, it doesn't matter how, or who you book your holiday with, the insurance covers you and your family. There are plenty of insurers in the High Street or online that will be substantially cheaper than travel companies own offerings :)

We have booked direct with Central Reservations Office for the last 3 trips as It worked out so much cheaper than using a travel agent, using the old codes we were getting deluxe for the price of value resorts on the high street.
You also get sent a confirmation letter in the post of your booking direct from Disney but you don't need them when checking in (or multiple letters If you resort hop).
The plus point in using someone like DreamsUnlimited is that they will automatically apply any codes If/when they come out instead of having to ring them yourself. Just email them your requirements and they will send you a quote via email.

Whatever you decide you will easily save money on the Virgin package.
