Trying To Avoid Hearing The "Jaws" Theme Music...

Y'know, that "doo-doo doo-doo doodoodoodoodoodoo..." music that means something ominous is about to happen.

We've been planning this Disney trip for 2 years now. When we got back home from our last adventure at WDW in December 2007, we immediately began planning our next trip.

With the advanced notice, I decided to try and give my family (particularly my wife and daughter) the trip of a lifetime and swing staying at The Poly. For 2 years, I've worked all the overtime I can, worked side jobs everywhere and basically busted my hump to make this happen.

Now, with 35 days to go, the trip is paid for, the flights are all paid and I've even been able to swing tickets to LaNouba, Mickey's Christmas Party and a couple of special dining experiences. I've even pre-paid our PhotoPass.

Now, for some reason, I'm just waiting for that ominous tone that signals something major is about to go awry. I'm not generally a pessimist, but I can't shake this feeling that something is going to happen to mess this all up.

Paranoid much? :confused3

I've even put away some extra money, so if there is any type of major upstate NY snowstorm predicted on our departure date (December 13) I am going to pay to have our airline tickets changed and rent a room in Orlando to get there early.

I know this is a ridiculous amount of paranoia, but I'll bet those folks who got eaten by Jaws probably thought it was silly to be afraid to go into the water!

OH

I am feeling you! How can anything you've looked SO forward to and worked SO hard for go off without a hitch??!!! We were just at WDW in February, and we leave in 6 days to go back. I cannot imagine being MORE excited for this trip, but I guess you probably have me beat.

Just today I am starting to listen for the du-du....du-du....dududududud...dunula. I just obsessively looked up 2 extended forecasts which I know aren't even accurate (the good news, they looked GREAT! -- but then, they aren't accurate! :headache:). Last night I wouldn't let my DD ride her scooter in case she falls (she never has)!! Never mind the whole illness thing...she and I have been taking multi-vitamins PLUS extra C, Zinc, and echinacea (sp) for the past month.

The cracked-out thing about it is, I'm not a pessimist, either. I don't think I've EVER been this neurotic about anything. I just hope I don't worry myself into problems (borrowing trouble, as the old folks put it).

Let's both take a deep breath. WDW will be as amazing as our last trips have been! Once we get there, we'll be fine!! :yay:

Sorry so long, I just know how you feel!

LOL!

That's great about the extended forecast, because I find myself doing the same thing as a trip gets close.

If the forecast is bad, I get all freaked out, disregarding the fact that they're never right. If the forecast is good, I can't even get all that excited because -- well -- they're never right! :rotfl2:

Not going to lie, I got a little misty when I read about all the work you put into making this upcoming trip special. I really respect you for that. :cheer2:

I'm totally there with you on the fact that sometimes it feels like how could something not go wrong with something you've planned so hard for?

It totally sounds like you are a planner, so maybe make sure you go over a last minute checklist? But beyond that, get lots of a rest! I know I always get so excited before a vacay that I don't get any sleep.

I'm sending you some pixie dust for your upcoming trip...pixiedust: I completely understand where you are coming from....me...I'm a complete pessimist..I'm always thinking something will go wrong...just yesterday I was doing a happy dance that we were one month away...and then my DS woke up in the middle of the night throwing up....now I should look on the bright side and say whatever he has can through the whole house before our trip, but all I can think about is being sick in Disney!!!:confused3 But I always pack enough medicine for a family of 20 in the suitcase....just in case....It sounds like you have planned a trip of a lifetime and I hope you and your family have an awesome trip!!!! Enjoy!!:santa::santa::santa:

Thanks very much for the good wishes, everyone! I'll keep you posted as to the pitfalls (or hopefully, the lack of) that await. :)

I actually made my first trip to Disney in '06, when I was 44 years old. Being an old fart already, and not the type ususally given to "gushing" over anything, I have always been astounded by how Disney World affects me!

I hit Main Street, and I become the biggest, doofiest kid in the world! WDW is my Nirvana; it's where all the cares of the world go away, and I get to focus on nothing but fun with my family.

...I keep waiting to run into Kevin Costner so I can say, "Is this Heaven?" And he'll say, "No, it's Orlando... Wait, maybe it is Heaven..." :goodvibes

Okay, THIS post got me misty! What a wonderful Hubby/Daddy you are to do this for your family. To some, it may just sound like a vacation. But WE know what a gift you are really giving to them, don't we? ;)
