Usually we do sandwiches or pizza, something easy on Thanksgiving Eve. This is our year to have all of our kids, spouses, girl/boyfriends etc., at our house, so I thought it would be fun to attempt to recreate the Melting Pot experience at our dining room table. Attempt is the key word here.:rotfl:

My younger daughter has a cookbook with recipes from the Melting Pot, so I'm going to borrow it and use two different cheeses in two different fondue pots. After the cheese fondue, we'll have chocolate fondue.

I have a list of food items for dipping, but I'm sure there are many more. So, I'd love to know:

What are your three favorite food items for dipping in cheese fondue?

What a fun idea! :) Can't help with the cheese fondue : I don't like cheese. But for the dessert, I'd say strawberries, bananas & maybe a short bread type cookie. But let's face it, if you had a pot of chocolate, I'd dip just about anything in it! :lmao:

Cheese:
Chiabatta bread - I like the chewyness
Kielbasa sausage
Lightly steamed cauliflower

Chocolate:
A spoonful of peanut butter
Apples
Marshmallows

Cheese-any meats I would think would be good, like pepperoni, salami, ham. Maybe diced chicken with a mexican seasoning. Um..my face, wait no that wouldn't be good. I love cheese. Crackers, breads, apples (never had it but they offer it at The Big E).

As far as the chocolate, again my face. If you don't want that then there are prezels, apples, bananas (slice & freeze them otherwise they make the chocolate icky). Blueberries, raspberries, strawberries. Cut up a cake in cubes. Make chocolate chip cookies minus the chocolate chips but make them into a bar so you can cube them.

What about a blondie brownie? I never had one so I have no clue what it tastes like. Oreos, yum..oreos.

For the cheese: bread and apples

For the chocolate: angel food cake cut into cubes is my favorite, strawberries, bananas, pineapple, and marshmallows.

Cheese: Celery, apples and French or Italian bread

Chocolate: Pound cake, rice krispie treats, graham crackers, coconut covered marshmallows

Oh that all sounds yummy!

my preference would be:
Cheese: bread sticks, bread cubes, garlic knots, pretzels

Chocolate: pretzels, graham crackers, marshmallows, apples, potato chips (sounds weird, but salty & sweet is awesome!)

Just love fondue!!

Cheese: Bread, steamed broccoli, raw cauliflower, cooked hot dogs slices, Granny smith apples, baby carrots, and tortilla chips.

Chocolate: Love rice crispy treats, marshmellows, bananas, strawberries, cherries, brownies

Have fun and enjoy!!

This is our traditional "Day we put up Christmas decorations" meal. Our favorites are cocktail weinies, cauliflower and bread for the cheese and pineapple, strawberries, bananas and pound cake for the chocolate. Try a bottle of Rosa Regale with the chocolate - it is devine!!!

Oh we love fondue!

On the cheese one

Bread
Broccoli
?

Chocolate one

Strawberries
Pound cake
Bananas

(other things we've used for the chocolate- macaroons, marshmallows, cookies, pretzels, waffle sticks)

We recently went to a similar get together...

Chocolate - Strawberries, Apples, Pineapples, Marshmallows, Graham Crackers, Pound Cake.

Cheese - Soft Pretzels, French Bread, "Everything" Bread.

WHATEVER you do... DO NOT attempt a "Fried Meat Fondue"!!!!!! Sure, the steak and chicken chunks fried and dipped in interesting sauces was good, but my hair is still greasy and smells like cooking oil. (I'm kidding... But we REEKED!)

oh but it's so very good!

Trader Joes has some delicious cheese fondue this year. We just Had the white wine one with apples, bread chunks, sausage pieces and pretzel bits. They also had a beer cheese fondue but I haven't tried it yet.

You could dip almost anything in chocolate! I love dried apricots and other dried fruits, apples, pineapple, strawberries, dense cake, dense brownies, rice krispie chunks, pretzels, cheesecake bits and vanilla wafers. I could go on forever but now I have to go find some chocolate. Good tbhing I bought a bar of Toblerone today :woohoo:

As I recall at The Melting Pot they use broth instead of oil to cook the meat. I'm sure that would be a lot less stinky!

At the melting pot my fav for the cheese is the apples and cauliflower
For the chocolate, the strawberries, bananas and love, love the pound cake!!

So many good ideas here! The trouble is going to be deciding on which foods to use. You've hit on everything I have on my list and so much more!:)

Thanks for listing your favorites!

Ok, I can help with this! :lmao: At the Melting Pot, I love the little tiny sweet gherkin pickles for the cheese! It sounds weird, but it is soo good! I also like the rosemary bread. Mmmmm! And any veggie works!

For the chocolate: 1. strawberries 2. bananas 3. brownie bites

Cheese: My favorite Melting Pot cheese is the Mexican one. I love the french bread and green apples dipped in.

Chocolate-- Um, anything. Strawberries, rice krispies (SO good!), Brownie bites (very rich but VERY good). Marshmallows are yummy, too.

I love your idea!

Cheese:
- green apples
- soft pretzels/pretzel bread
- grilled kielbasa

Chocolate:
- mandarin orange segments
- pears
- dried apricots
- pretzel sticks (can you tell I am a pretzel fan?)
- something minty since it is the start of the "Holiday Season" peppermint cookies or sticks?
