well, I'm feeling a bit melancholy today. Maybe cause Fred's fixin to desert me for 2 weeks with the Navy??
So anyway, I was revisiting a post on Dizneypins about your "best pin friend". I thought I'd paste my entry here and share it. It is what these piece's of metal are allllll about.
***************************************************
For me I can't just name one person who is my best pin friend. It is actually a group of people who have become very dear to me.
After I first got into pin trading in April of 2001, I met a nice girl named Janice. At that time we were both posting on another pin board that has since closed. That is how she knew me, and at my first visit to Scoop's seminar we met, and she introduced herself. She was going thru a very emotional time and shared some of what she was going thru in the weeks that followed. It was through this friendship that I met the group that has become very special to me.
As I was posting on this particular board an event took place that was very hurtful. I was banned and took it very personal.
It is a long story, won't go there. Let it suffice to say, I survived!! I was encouraged to try this board as well as the DIS board. It was through posting on these boards that I met this group of people. This group became supportive and reached out to me at a difficult time. I found this amazing as they didn't really know me all that well, outside of pin trading.
Well, as 2002 began, Fred and I started attending the pin events, and we began to see these friendships nurture and grow. We were always together at pin events and Fred and I tried to come down as many weekends as we could to see these friends. Then in December of 2002, after being ill for 6 months, my Pop-a -dop passed away. It was the weekend of the Spectacle of Pins Christmas Pin event. Fred & I were signed up to go, and had to pass. This wonderful group of friends all got together that weekend and sent us a sympathy card that I treasure to this day. It was not until January 2003 that we finally got to WDW to see them at a friday cont. pin meet. I was welcomed with hugs, and loads of love and support. One in particular from this group, Michele, was especially helpful, as I shared with her the challenges I was going through with my mother. Since she was going through much the same with her dad, she was so wonderful to encourage me and give me advice on how to handle my situation. I cannot thank her enough.
It is much like a family in that we all care for each other, and yes, I have been given Pooh pins from time to time from them as well. Or there have been times when I couldn't get to the parks and they helped me get a pin I wanted. So many times when we get to meets, instead of trading, we are busy just catching up and sharing our lives as they are. It is wonderful, and I treasure each moment I can spend with them.
This wonderfu group by name are, June & Bob, Ed & Donna, Dana,Micheal,Brittany & Justin, Michele, Manny & Dillon, Micheal & Corey. This is what I would consider the "core" group. But of course, this group has introduced me to other wonderful people as well, such as, Leslie, Robin, Nat, Sandy,Vince, Larry,Ken. I could go on no doubt. But the point is, one life seems to touch another and another.
I cannot say it enough, this "hobby" has surrounded me with wonderful people. These are just a very few. Because of the boards, there have been countless others that have endeared themselves to me in ways I never would have imagined possible.
Thank you for this thread and for the wonderful reminder of what pins are really all about. The People that WEAR them!!!
What a blessing!!!!!
Blessings,
Winnie
