--Truthiness---The Colbert Report DIScussion

I love Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. What a great hour of TV every night! I'm usually laughing out loud at something and waking up the rest of the family.

Stephen was a classmate/friend of my brother's in high school, and he was a very funny guy back then. He had to deal with a terrible tragedy when he was 10 years old. His father and a brother were killed in the Charlotte plane crash in 1974, and his mother raised all those kids by herself.

It is great to see him do so well......funny, he mentions things on his show that are almost like inside jokes from his high school years, and we all get a real kick out of it. :rotfl2:

That is so cool! Did you catch him on Conan? When he showed us the pic of Stephen as a freshmen I couldn't believe it was him. He looked like the type that would play Dungeons and Dragons! lol

And I officially love him for mentioning my fave band "Death Cab" on his latest Report!

Colbert is very good. Been up to tapings twice. Very impressive. They did virtually all of it in one take.

Sixty minutes had a great interview of Steven Colbert on tonight. I really enjoyed the interview.

shucks I missed it! was he in character?
No. He was his real self. He described his character as a typical conservative idiot. Colbert also does not allow his young children to watch the show because he is afraid that they would not understand satire and the fact that he is playing a character.

I love both Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. :thumbsup2
Tonight's episode of the colbert report was great. Colbert got Stewart to apologize to Geraldo by having Stewart wear a Geraldo mustache. It was very funny.

Last night Colbert blamed Toby Keith for ratting out Willie Nelson for having pot on his bus. It was great.

The Colbert Report is a great show. We all like to sit down and watch both Jon Stewart and Colbert when we can, even DS.

I think that The Word is particularly brilliant sometimes.

:rotfl: :rotfl2: Colbert had George Lucas on as a contestant in the green screen challenge. Colbert introduced him as "George L" and the video done by Lucas was very very good. Then to make things more amusing, Lucas lost the challenge. :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Holy Moly. What he did last night at the correspondents dinner took serious cahones. It's one thing to say these things on your cable show and another to say them when the President is sitting five feet from you.

"Colbert, who spoke in the guise of his talk show character, who ostensibly supports the president strongly, urged Bush to ignore his low approval ratings, saying they were based on reality, “and reality has a well-known liberal bias.”

"He attacked those in the press who claim that the shake-up at the White House was merely re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. “This administration is soaring, not sinking,” he said. “If anything, they are re-arranging the deck chairs on the Hindenburg.”

"Turning to the war, he declared, "I believe that the government that governs best is a government that governs least, and by these standards we have set up a fabulous government in Iraq."

"Observing that Bush sticks to his principles, he said, "When the president decides something on Monday, he still believes it on Wednesday - no matter what happened Tuesday."

"Also lampooning the press, Colbert complained that he was “surrounded by the liberal media who are destroying this country, except for Fox News. Fox believes in presenting both sides of the story — the president’s side and the vice president’s side." He also reflected on the alleged good old days, when the media was still swallowing the WMD story."

"Addressing the reporters, he said, "Let's review the rules. Here's how it works. The president makes decisions, he’s the decider. The press secretary announces those decisions, and you people of the press type those decisions down. Make, announce, type. Put them through a spell check and go home. Get to know your family again. Make love to your wife. Write that novel you got kicking around in your head. You know, the one about the intrepid Washington reporter with the courage to stand up to the administration. You know--fiction."

"He claimed that the Secret Service name for Bush's new press secretary is "Snow Job."

"As Colbert walked from the podium, when it was over, the president and First Lady gave him quick nods, unsmiling, and handshakes, and left immediately."
In response to Colbert's performance last year, they have selected Rich Little to host this year's WH Correspondents Dinner. http://wonkette.com/politics/rich-little/bob-hope-sadly-too-dead-to-headline-wcha-dinner-228966.php
After a White House Correspondents Dinner marred by a speech that was actually, tragically funny, the WHCA has taken steps to ensure that never again will the C-SPAN-watching public accidentally crack a smile. This year’s dinner guest of honor: Rich Little.

Yeah, the impressionist known for his humorous takes on Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, Johnny Carson, and hopefully some people who aren’t dead.
