Trouble At Cc

First I would just like to say that CC is a true paradise island. My DD-4 and I were true beach bums from 9:30 am to 3 pm, while DH and DS's 13 and 17 were off doing their own things!!
This was on the 3-11 Wonder.
At around 11am, my DD-4 who is a strawberry blond and very Fair skinned, decided she needed a NEW hat, NOT the cute Minnie Mouse RED one, but the PINK minnie one that ALL the other girls had from the She Sells shop, mommie.......
SO, as I was getting ready to pay for this hat, along with numerous other "had to have" items, the dear CM at the shop says of my KTTW card, "Oh, you are not even listed on this cruise in our system-sorry, I can not sell these things to you!!" WHAT???????????????????????????????????????????????????
I calmly asked what did she mean? Her reply was," Your name is not in the DCL system." Never mind that I had just been logged out of the ship ok to come ashore OR that I had bought 2 drinks earlier with no problem. I told her she needed to get her manager and call the ship to confirm this error.
Long story short, after a 10 minute wait-call to Guest Services by radio, I indeed was a verified passenger and on this cruise!!!!
No apology by either manager or CM to me or my very patient DD-4 who waited by my side TO GET HER HAT!!!!
They acted as if I was indeed non-exsistent and I did not care for that attitude.
All other contacts with CM's on CC were pleasant.....

Duh, how the heck would you have gotten to CC if you weren't a verified passenger? Isn't it in the middle of nowhere? YOU MY DEAR must be an excellent endurance swimmer to have gotten to that lovely island without benefit of a ship!!!!!!!!!!!!

We had a similar issue at CC. They get their computer services from the ship - they run cables as they plug in. It isn't a faultless system, and when we tried to buy our items at CC, the connection wasn't happening. They never said we weren't a passenger, just that "the system wasn't responding." And it took about ten minutes before everything was working again.

The staff was pleasant enough about it, but harried and more worried about getting the computers functional again then in bending over backwards about my inconvieniece. Which was fine with me. I do connectivity related IT support.

The system may have been tempramental that day as well, BUT, that is not how it was explained to me. Others were paying for their items ok as we waited over to the side.
I think the no explanation and total avoidance of us was the most irritating part. If this is a common occurance than they need to explain that to others.
By the way, I was able to get scanned back on the ship ok at the end of the day at CC. My DH thought maybe my card had become demagnitized, but worked ok to eventually charge the items and to board ok.
I just don't know....

lstokes that is my nightmare! To get off the ship and then not be recoginized as a passenger to buy stuff or be allowed back on. As I read this my heart sank, oh my, were you worried they wouldn't let you back on the ship? I think I would have cried:scared:

Actually, the part about not being able to buy stuff is awful, but to not be allowed back on the ship and to be marooned on CC...well, I think I could handle that!

Hey lstokes if you figure out how that happened PLEASE PM me as I figure we could afford a few more cruises a year if I could work that trick on my DW's credit cards. Heck I've tried big magnets, chisels and emery boards on the magnetic strip but the darn things always seem to work when checking out. Sheesh ;)

Cheers,
Grumbo

Wow. I'm surprised. That was not very nice of them to treat you that way. :( I'm glad your little one waited patiently.

Rode once years ago and loved it! I can re-learn though, and am a fast learner!!! :)

Oooo, Rae...cantering along the beach at CC definitely does sound like Heaven! My old horse, Cochise, loved to swim when he was younger, so I wonder if he'd go in the ocean now. Maybe the salt water would soothe his old bones! If not, I'll have to see if Figment likes water.

I like the horseback riding idea too!

I was on the 3/20 Eastern and my card got demagnitized twice. Just put two cards' magnetic strips together and whalla!

We always had a problem with checking our kids into the clubs while checking in at a different location like the sport court they used a laptop and the laptops never worked. We always waited a good tfifteen-twenty minutes to get the boys signed in. It drove me crazy...late for Palos, late for my pedicure and never an apology for the delay. They had to hand write all of the info each time. They wrote sooo slow. Why use the computers if they only work half the time.
I was a little disappointed with the service at times, I thought I would be thrilled with the customer service having heard so many great things.

That story is ridiculous! Do they get alot of "break-ins" at CC?

This is the first I've heard about the cards being a problem, but it sure does sound like it has been a major one for both of you -
Isn't there a way that new cards can be made up at the Guest Services Desk for when these things happen?
Sure would solve the problem!
And what happens if one is lost? I know....don't even go there, Rae!!!

RE: horses at CC,
Barb, if you ever get tired of the Chicago weather, why don't you join me in bringing horses to CC!!! We can start a small stable and of course, living there would be just a "minor" perk!!!!

I started riding when I was about 4 and rode until I was about 17. (I'm 23 now) I am DEFINATELY tired of this ugly Chicago weather! Count me in even if it's just to clean stables! I'll be a stable hand! :( I miss riding soooo much!

Apology for the hijacking of this thread, it is and remains a very important issue.....

((((Next, if you are in Illinois, northern Indiana, I invite you to come down to Royal Center, IN (near Monticello) to ride in the hills and woods (nearly 200 acres) of Crooked Creek Stables. $15.00/hr, $20/2 hours. Plus you can buy a horse on contract and board it there (currently $180/month).)))))))

Again, the topic of discussion - why can't Guest Services just make a new card(s)?
