Gaston was a shortlived one: I saw it on the satellite feed this morning (Central European Time) before it even had a name, was surprised that it suddenly had a name, and now it's been downgraded to a tropical depression.
But it's Frances that I'm afraid of - This one may get nasty

As for the storm, it is getting stronger as of 5:00 pm EDT. I don't know how much stronger it can get with it being close to shore.

Not so much. Here in SC, we are now under a hurricane warning as Gaston is expected to make landfall sometime late tomorrow as a Category 1 hurricane.

Hurricane Frances continues to get better organized in the Atlantic with winds now at 135 Mph, Making Frances a Category 4 Hurricane . Frances is about 690 Miles East of the Northern Leeward Islands and is moving NW at 9 Mph. Hurricane Frances is expected to continue to Strengthen and could be near a Category 5 Hurricane on Sunday. Tropical Storm Gaston about 115 Miles SE of Charleston South Carolina and strengthening with winds now at 50 Mph. T.S. Gaston is drifting Westward. A Hurricane Watch is in effect along the South Carolina Coast from the Savannah River to Little River Inlet. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect along the South Carolina Coast from the Savannah River to Little River Inlet. A Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect North of Little River Inlet to Surf City North Carolina and South of the Savannah River to Fernandina Beach Florida.
