Tropical Storm Florence

I am not a fl.resident...but I did just catch the 6pm news. They said most of the computer modules have the track of florence going out to sea..

I like in southwest FL and I keep track on all the storms at:

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

We were in WDW last year for Hurricane Wilma and we were scheduled to go to MNSSHP on the night that Wilma was to pass by...the CM at the MK ticket counter swapped our tickets for an earlier night with no problem

I am from Florida so believe me when I say, I don't have a clue. :confused3

The truth is, neither do the forecasters. I wish I could get a job and get paid for being wrong -- ALL the time. The only time I even listen anymore is when they say, this is one "not to worry about."

We have a forecaster named Denis Phillips and if he smiles, I run to the store and start buying supplies. There are no chrystal balls for predicting which way the storm will blow. Maybe they should give these guys chrystal balls, it would probably be more accurate than they are.

Stop worrying, it won't help. Just keep one eye on the tv and the other on the sky. Have a great trip :wave2:

I especially like the Accuweather site, since it gives 15 day forecasts. OK, I know realistically you can't expect this to be correct, but it's fun to watch while you're counting those last 2 weeks before your trip! :goodvibes

Also, if you look at the Florence info Accuweather, they also show it going out to sea. And they have Florida listed as "not a threat".

Relax, and enjoy your trip!

:rotfl2: :rotfl: Stop! You're scaring me!! :rotfl: :rotfl2:

florida resident and survivor of hurricanes erin, opal, danny, georges, ivan and dennis here. DO NOT use this map i'm posting for any planning actions. it is merely an historical map that shows any tropical systems since the 1800's during this time of year that have passed within 200 nautical miles of florence. so there is a high probablity that she will 'Fish Out'. we can keep our fingers crossed. but mother nature will do as she sees fit. keep your eyes on the forecast from www.weatherunderground.com and nhc.

Flo will go where Flo can go with the steering currents.

I do have more confidence in the tracks with storms heading our direction from the Atlantic, more than I do with the ones in the Gulf of Mexico. Seems like they get closer to the real track with the ones in Atlantic.

So for me personally, I think Flo will head out to sea, but I'm not counting on anything until it happens.

I remember when Jeanne turned back out to sea, and did a loop and hit Florida anyway......you just don't know.

Just watch it, and for anything else out there.

I read one article today (sorry can't remember which one) saying there were so many trpoical waves out there right now, it was getting the weather guys dizzy.

yup. thankfully the SAL is helping to keep most of them from developing.

on our news this evening they said that they weren't really worried about Florence hitting central florida. Instead they have their eye on a new disturbance in the tropics that is lingering but hasn't formed yet.

Ok, I'm going to believe what I want to hear: Flo will go out to sea!

We are headed to Hilton Head on 9-15, :moped: which I know is 10 days away - omg  :Pinkbounc :cool1:  :Pinkbounc - but any thing can happen.

I'll be keeping me eyes on the tv and the weather channel!

I refuse to worry about it. If Flo comes, she comes and DH will put up the shutters and we will batten down the hatches again. Same old story every year. After 31 years down here I'm a fatalist

It could die an early death.
It could gain in strengh and become a killer.
It could go out to sea.
It could turn and hit Florida.
It could go wild and end up in the Gulf.
It could.......

There's simply no way to know, especially this early on. Anything could happen, including another fast-moving storm with a name starting with a letter further up the alphabet, heading directly for Orlando. But it isn't something to worry about because it's either going to matter or it's not. After the last couple of years, we don't even listen to the news until a day or two before a hurricane is supposed to arrive in Orlando. The forecast is rarely correct. ;)
