Has anyone had success in waiting until your arrival in St. Marten to purchase dresses/shirts to wear for Tropical night? We will be doing an excursion in the morning, but want to shop after lunch. Are there stroes close by the dock?

I would like to buy dresses for my DD's and a shirt for my husband. I usually like to wash my clothing before wearng them - any thoughts on buying and wearing right away?

Thanks,

There are several shops that you can get to once you take the ferry to the Town Pier.....I saw some nice shirts at "The Last Mango in Paradise" which sells Jimmy Buffet tropical shirts....I believe they were about $70 or you can get a Tommy Bahama shirt on the ship in Treasure Ketch which was about $100, kind of pricey, but very nice since it is a silk shirt, however, if you get this shirt, you'll need to do it Tuesday before midnight and the shop will be closed while in port.....I ended up getting the one onboard and wore it right away.....Andy

I don't have an answer to your question, but do you have access to a Hilo Hatti's? It is a HUGE hawaiin store that has some nice tropical attire, with some awesome clearance racks! I'm not sure, but maybe they have a website as well.

If I remember correctly, I think there is a Hilo Hattie's in Orlando...if you are driving. Or you could also check Ron Jon's in Cocoa Beach.

If you want to wait until St. Martin...there are alot of shops that will have tropical clothes...they might not be on the "approved" list...but if you're paying cash and don't mind if it turns out to be a "disposable" outfit (by that I mean that it might fall apart when you wash it)...then you'll be good to go!

Have fun!

We bought our DD a nice dress for $10.00 on St. Maarten for Tropical Night a few weeks ago, she looked very nice in it too!!!

I saw some nice men's shirts for $10.00 also, but I had brought my tropical shirt from home.

We bought tropical wear for all 7 of us in St. Maarten. (my parents brought theirs from home). The girls' outfits (2 got dresses and 1 got a two piece wrap skirt and top) were around $6-8 each(my girls are still little). My outfit, wrap pants and sleeveless button front top (and I LOVE it!), was $15 and the boys all got tropical shirts for $10 each. So far everything has washed really well (and believe me they have been washed several times!). We just wore ours that night without washing first and had no problems. It was fun shopping for something like that except there are so many choices it was hard to choose! Have fun!!!

I saw quite a few shops with tropical clothing when we were there in May. We commented to each other that we might wait until we're there next time, and buy them on the island.

I got a tropical shirt for me for $5.00 at St. Martaan. I don't know the name of the shop but it was close to where the water taxi dropped us off. I didn't even try to negotiate as I thought it was such a great deal. I did not wash it first but I did wear a shirt under it. For $5 I don't care if it lasts or not. Kim

Hilo Hatti's does have a web site Hilo Hatti

That's where we ordered our matching outfits from for our May 2001 cruise. They have a great selection with something for everyone and all sizes.

That's great to know! I was worried that the clothes would fall apart.

If you order from Hilo Hattie, order BIG. Their stuff is wonderful quality but tends to run small, especially little kid's clothes. Since so much of it is 100% cotton or rayon it also tends to shrink. The garments look fine even if way over-sized. Since the quality is high it can last for years, if it just fits!

Plus check out the music of Israel Kamakawiwo'ole on their site while you are at it. If you loved the music of Mark Keali'i Ho'omalu (Roller Coaster and Lilo's song) in Lilo and Stitch, you'll love IZ's music. Other sites have actual clips of his wonderful voice (alas, no new music, he is dead). Great pre-cruise tunes, even if it is Hawai'i.
