I was disappointed with FoP. To me its Star Tours on a flying motorcycle. Welcome to the age of simulators.

That's so disappointing to hear...really is.

Both universal and Disney are overselling "potential" on simulators because of computer variation control.

They're indoors, they're low cost, they can be high capacity...I get it. But "immersion" on a computer programmed stationary device has limits.

This will never change. You can't fight nature.

Interesting... I thought it was a fantastic attraction for what it is and didn't compare it to Star Tours at all. I'd also argue the age of simulators in theme parks started in the 80s with Star Tours.

I don't disagree with that. Cost wise, simulators must be the way to go.

I know you weren't impressed, but I think you are in a very small minority.
It exceeded all of my expectations. By quite a bit, actually.
I've been back 5 times already to ride it again and again.

Considering I have never been to IOA I don't know. If Pandora as is was built at Universal I think I would still enjoy it very much. The whole experience from Queue-Pre show-to ride is one of the best Disney has done at least stateside. Universal isn't always known for the queue experience as much so I don't know if they would have that part. The ride it self is great and offers re-ridability.

There is definitely some movement. I rode Soarin the day after I rode FoP and was almost kind of bored because FoP was much more "intense" and thrilling.

I don't get the kinda sulky comments about "not enough family stuff"...really don't. They haven't really done a thing on any front for 20 years...are we saying soarin is like somekinda steel swaying monstrosity in the wind in Sandusky, Ohio?

All these things they're proposing are pretty tame...watch the video of tron...everyone in decent health should be able to handle this.

Why is it that all things must be suitable for a 7 year old that's scared of the muppets (kids are so fraidy cat now)...or somebody who's north of 400 in an ecv?

I mean...I like the family rides - if done well - as much as the next guy. But shouldn't those that can kick back and have fun on anything be rewarded too?

I just want balance. I don't see that anything other than the Ariel ride in New Fantasyland is geared towards young kids. I thought I said, I actually like all of the new things coming in, but as you mentioned, its been a 20 year hiatus.

Watching the video of it on youtube, I just have a hard time getting excited for this ride. Knott's Berry Farm as a similar ride in terms of seating and so does Coney Island in Queens. It's not exactly a comfortable seating arrangement, and this ride looks much more tame than either of them. If the whole thing was inside and they did more with the lighting I could see it being fun. I wish they would do a Tron coaster when you board 4 different colored cars and race on different tracks, narrowly missing each other like in the game.

I'm talking about avatar and Star Wars.

Those require more than 2 each...and they shouldn't be a kiddie friendly and a simulated "non-kiddie" if you're gonna pick two.

Shoulda been two big boy pants frontlines and a third kiddie flat at a minimum.

Thank you. More succinctly put than me, and addresses the whole spectrum of ages needed. Not one size fits all. And I'm glad that not everything is a simulator.

The experience is fantastic,so for that I disagree. However, don't walk in expecting it to match RnR for sheer psychological thrill - it's more of a Soarin' type experience that has been truly plussed. It is enjoyable and fun, and pretty amazing the first time. After that, it is still a nice ride, although it needs to have different movies in my opinion.

Soarin'...now that you bring it up...is really a kiddie ride.

But gets way too much hoopla.

Four years for a themed coaster. Most other parks can get a coaster up in 6-9 months (offseason). I get that it takes a little longer when the park doesn't close and that the theming takes time too, but 4 years? Geez.

There's no design...it's like building with legos.

It's deliberate. It's "measured" to do coming soon/now open/new labels for 10 years

Announcing the ride is not the same as commencing construction. Construction hasn't started, and is not likely to start anytime soon. Actual construction won't take anywhere close to 4 years.
