I have to ask this. If you suspect a poster is a troll, why would you keep responding to her absurd threads?

Wouldn't it be better to just let the poster fade away?

Do some people just respond for sport?

I've always wondered the same thing, why would anyone respond to some of the ridiculous posts that have been on here lately? Maybe they are naive?

Sick, twisted puppies? Yep - guess that's what we are. Plus - there's mostly reruns on TV right now.

It sometimes takes me a bit to figure out! I am not on guard for trollish threads, and usually believe that people are who and what they say. Too many sleepless nights with the baby, I guess!

I'm sorry if this has been asked before but I'm not sure what the term troll means. Is it someone who starts a thread with the intent of "stirring things up"? Or is is someone who responds to a post in a manner they know will start a debate? I hope I'm making sense here

I was just curious because I cannot believe that anyone would have so much drama going on constantly. There are so many more intelligent threads (like about TomKat & Brangelina ) to respond to than the drama threads.

For me TomKat and Brangelina threads are not worth the time to read. Now a good drama queen threat that makes me start laughing is worth the cost of admission.

Depends on the troll's intentions. If it's silly, goofy or otherwise harmless fun, I'll play along. If it's malicious stuff, I ignore them.

If a person's first post on the Disboards is a long post about all the problems in their marriage, they are a troll! I know if my marriage was in trouble, I would look for a Disney vacation planning board right away (insert sarcastic smilie here)

BTW, I never post on a troll's thread but admit to reading them for pure entertainment value

To be fair many of those posts are long time posters who are using a new name. Many of those threads start with some variation of the line: "I am a long time poster but am using this new name for this thread."

If I see a certain person respond to a thread-I ususally follow his lead and see how he posts. Most times he is kind but he has a pretty good intuition who is a troll and who isn't.

Ask Dan Murphy for the description of a troll, he will post it for you if you ask.
