Triumph as carry on?

Hi! Sorry if this is an old topic. I seem to be search-challenged today and couldn't find anything.

Has anyone tried to take a folded MacLaren Triumph on a plane as a carry-on piece? I don't have a travel bag for it and am really terrified about having it ruined if I gate check it. Heck, even if I *did buy a travel bag I'd still worry!

Thanks in advance! :)

I don't think the bins are large enough, but I really wouldn't worry too much about gate check, I have checked my triumph in a couple times, it was fine, no damage, and if it wasn't waiting for me by the time I deboarded I would only wait a couple minutes.

All depends on the airline sometime they will allow you to stow them in the bin and others will not. If you get to the gate and they won't allow it they will make you gate check it. Usually you have to gate check it and I have never had any problems either. I would never put it thru luggage.

We gate checked our Bugaboo Frog both ways on a trip to Florida this past weekend and had no problems at all. The wife was a bit concerned about the treatment of our "mini-Hummer", but the Jet Blue baggage people did a great job!! I wouldn't be too concerned.

However, we also purchased a Quinny Zapp for ease in travel and have carried it on, in it's protective bag, and stowed it in the overhead compartments in the past without incedent. If you're really concered about damaging your stoller, I would suggest buying a Quinny. They fold down extremely small so they're easy to sneak by the flight attendants. Not cheap, but if you carry it on, you're guaranteed not to have to worry about any damage.

The Quinny looks really interesting, but I already had a time convincing the DH to spring for the Triumph. Don't think we can afford another stroller before the trip LOL.

I wonder if our Triumph would fit in an old golf-club travel bag... Any thoughts on if a stroller is safer in a bag (slightly protected) or loose (clearly visible as a fragile stroller)?

Thanks so much for all the help!

Hi Aanna - our low tech, cheap solution is to carry a big black garbage bag and a luggage strap. We put the stroller in the bag, tie it tight and put the luggage strap around it for good measure. We've done this before boarding and even right at the door to the plane! We've never had a damage in many years of doing this.

Good Luck!

I always travel with our Volo and have never been able to bring it onboard. I have always had to gate check it. Not a big hassle and we have never had a problem...good luck!
