Trips to beaches for those off site...

Does anyone take time during their Disney vacation to hit any beaches? We are near Kissimmee area for 10 days and at WDW for 5 of those. Thought maybe we should drive to Clearwater or some other beach area for the day. It will be early Feb. though and thought it may be too cold for beaches. Anyone have any thoughts or any suggestions for good beaches. Thanks.

We have in past gone to the beach, but not in February. The only people at the beach will be some fellow crazy Canadians and even then most of of them won't go in the water without a wet suit. You're probably better off to go to one of the Orlando water parks (Disney or otherwise) where the water is heated.

We have gone to the beach in January but just to stroll along in our capris and such! Not to swim that water is COLD!!!LOL

The one time we went in Oct 2008 we drove out to Cocao Beach it was nice and not a lot of people out there.

I had my heart set on getting to the beach Ive never seen the Ocean But im staying on property and not driving so maybe next time

Theres a good chance you'll see if from the airplane if it's a clear day.

But if you don't... From the shore, It's a lot like Lake Ontario... Just with a little extra salt.

We go the other way, to the Gulf Side every March. We have relatives who camp out at Siesta Key near Sarasota for the winter. The beach is fantastic white powdery sand. Good shelling too. The kids will swim, but I do find it too cold for my old hide...

I second Sarasota and Siesta Key. We spent half of our summer holiday there in August/2011. Best beach holiday evahhhh. Now mind you this was August and the water was 32c so Im sure it will be much colder in Feb. It is 2 hours from Orlando so if your looking for a day trip Clearwater might be better.
