You can get discounts on lots of things with AAA. My grandmother gives me a AAA membership for Christmas every year, so I piggyback on her account and I don't know what the yearly cost of the card is. I know that in North Carolina I can get 5 day park hoppers (with no plusses) for $220 including tax. That's about a $20 savings over what Disney offers, so if you're buying more than one pass, that's probably your entire years membership cost right there. Not to mention the free maps and other perks.
Check out the New York AAA and see if you can find anything.
I'll add that AAA also saves you 30% on eyeglasses at Lenscrafters. I've used that discount 2x now.
Also, approx. 5% on PHP passes and mine included the Plus options here in NH.
Discounted hotel rooms, roadside assistance 24/7 no matter whose vehicle you are in. Also, here at our movie store (Movie Gallery) if you rent 2 movies, you get the 3rd free by showing your AAA card.
Trip Tik is a your road itinerary mapped out for you showing your start point to your destination and it's free. All guide/travel books are free with your membership too. I've used all the services they have.
I hear that you can get special parking at the parks if you are a AAA member and that there is a lounge somewhere at MK. Can you use these services if you are a AAA member but not booking a trip through them for Disney? Does anyone know?
Yes, the lounge is true at MK, though I don't remember where in the MK it is.
THere is also what's called Preferred Parking and I got that with my PHP when I bought them. There is like 7 spots reserved for this, we never got to the parks early enough to take advantage of that....they go quickly.
The lounge is in the back of Carosel of Progress. It was closed last time we were there. I had the voucher to get in but it was locked up tight.
Just being a member does not get you the Diamond lot parking or the lounge pass you must book through AAA or maybe just buy tickets.
My mother uses a scooter and hates to use the busses because of the looks from others. We drove to all the parks last time and we were not early. Had a one year old and my mother. We were able to use the special lot every time at every park. I know they can fill up but there did seem to be quite a few spaces. With the advantage of the handicap sticker it put us closer than the bus stops!
