I'm looking for a decent, good value tripod and hope some of you can offer some suggestions. I don't need anything super rugged or fancy since I probably won't use it all that often and I will probably never take it to Disney. Just something to set up for family portraits and maybe to start experimenting with long exposures.

Honestly, if you're just looking for something to use around home, go to Best Buy or Wal-Mart and find something in your budget.

The angst people go through are when they are looking for something small, light and sturdy all in one package...... like to take into the park at Disney.

If you decide you want something easy to carry out and about.... check out the one I just bought:

Tom Bricker recently reviewed it but I can't link it here. Just google Tom Bricker Luxi L iii and you'll find it. It's the tallest tripod I have found with a good weight rating, while being small enough to carry with me at Disney.
