trip report update how to

I am wanting to post a trip report but do not know how to add my update to the chapter page so that people can go straight to the chapter instead of reading the whole thread. I thought I was given good info but I can not get it to work. I was told that once I do my update I am to click on the small # icon in the right hand corner. This did not seem to work so I highlighted everything and then presed the #.icon and at least had my info there when I summited the thread but it looked as if it was in a box with in the box and you had to use a drop down to scroll through the data to some what see it. Next I was told to go to my Chapter page and put in the title I wanted it to be, Highlight it, click the earth icon with the chain on it, and paste the web address that was copied when I pressed the #icon. This does add a underline under my chapter that I added but when I try to go into it is say it does not exist. HELP I am do not know what else to do!!!!!

Are you clicking on the # or on the actual post number? In the upper right corner of each post is a #X with X being the number of the post. This post should have #2 in the upper right. Click on the 2 and you should have a new tab open with just that post. Copy that URL and insert per the instructions.

I am sooooo glad you answered. Yes I have been clicking the # icon. I will try the actual post # and if I have any problems I will post again. Sure hope it is something simple like that. Thanks so much!

Ok just tried that and it did not work. Here are the exact instuctions I was given may be you can make head or tails of it.


For a chapter make sure to save the next reply after your introduction for a space for chapters. Once you make an update, click on the small number in the top right. This will take you to that unique web address for that reply. Copy that. Go to your chapter page and type the title you want that update to be called. For Example "next update" them Highlight "next update". Then go up to the little icons and clickthe little earth icon that has the chain on it. Paste the web address in thatlink and hit enter. Your "next update" should be a different color and when you click on it it should take you to that link.


When I click on the # icon it wraps

 tags around the selected text so I then copied that and submit my reply since that # icon is only avaliable while you are writting the reply. Once you submit the reply those icons are no available. Then  when I go back into my chapter page/reply I go into edit I thenm write my chapter title, highlight it, hit the earth with chain icon, hit control v (paste) the info I copied back when I hit the #icon. It does underline the chapter just like in everyone elses Trip report chapter pages but when you click on it it say internet explorer cannot display the webpage. It is not the connection but I think I am not coping the unique web adrees for that reply correctly for some reason. 

When I tried to hit the number of the reply like you mentioned it only opens up that reply seperately  but you can not open that reply from the chapter page when you hit that chapter title. I am at a loss and do not know what to do at this point. Any other ideas???

After going back and reading you reponse again I think where I am making my mistake in your instructions is I am copying the info I have put in that reply instead of the URL address. I am an idot when it come to computers and do not know where to copy the URL adsress. DO I copy the info in the address bar at the very top left side of the computer? It will not seem to let me hightlight it there. I am so confused

You have totally confused me! But it is late and I am too tired to think straight. I think you may be overly complicating things.

Let's say that you have written your 3rd Chapter and it is post 53. Click on the number 53 in the upper right corner of that post. It will open in a new tab. Go to that and then highlight and copy the URL from the URL address bar on your computer. That is where it ways www.disboards.comblahblahblah (lots of numbers and symbols) This is what the URL looks like for my post above (post 2)

Highlight that-- then Copy. Leave it open in case you need to go back and copy it again. Now go back to where you are posting your Chapter links-- either in your original post or a later post and go to Edit then Go Advanced .

Type the text you want it to say. Check out my post above-- I have written Look! Here is a link to this post. .

Then highlight that text and click on the globe/link icon. This brings up a box with an http// in it. Just delete that and paste in there the URL you highlighted and copied. ( what I posted in the quote box above) . Then click OK.

On your screen it will look like this except the beginning of the code will be I took out the brackets so you can see what the code looks like.

You can click on Preview Post to be sure everything looks correct. You should see your text and it should now be underlined and be clickable to take you just to that specific post. I have done that now in post 2 as an example.

Ok I am an idot!!! But I got it to work. Super simple
