We used DVC points to stay at Shutters in Santa Monica on July 13, 14 and 15. If any of you are considering this Concierge collection option, I wanted to offer a quick review.
Overall, the place exceeded our expectations both in terms of service, location and facilities. The facilities themselves are beautiful -- rooms were recently refurbished and have the very comfortable feel of a friend's perfectly furnished beach house. The beds have amazing linens and mattresses -- probably the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. The jacuzzi bath was awesome and had a set up like SSR where it opens onto a window into the main bedroom. The crib they set up for our child was also beautiful -- large, comfy and beautifully decorated. In fact, our toddler was treated like a princess at every turn. The concierge sent up new, free toys for her to play with. They gave us free baby spa/bath products. Housekeeping left new stuffed animals in her crib each night - -amazing. There are also free beach toys available for guest use -- so no need to pack shovel and pail and the rest. The beach is wonderful and the beach concierge is awesome, bringing out umbrellas, chairs and drinks upon request. The pool and pool deck have an amazing view of the ocean and very attentive service from the bar and restaurant. Activities were widely varied -- from surfing lessons to beach cruiser bicycles.
Also, awesome location. Very short walk to the pier, boardwalk, and 3rd Street. Everything that you could want, honestly. The only downsides, really, were: 1) $26/day to park our car -- that's insane and uncalled for; 2) the hotel's restaurants were ridiculously overpriced as well and I can't see how they stay in business when there are so many other wonderful options in easy walking distance.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Overall, I strongly recommend the place, even (especially?) if you have small children and want to enjoy a pleasant beach weekend in Los Angeles.
