We are just back from WDW during free dining. We (DH and I) stayed at Pop Century (again).
We took the nonstop midday flight down on Sept 10th on Southwest. The flight was less than 1/2 full so it was great. There were only a few B's on the flight so we got a row of seats to ourselves. Southwest was great as always. We parked at the Buffalo airport and the shuttle bus driver got out of the shuttle and loaded our bags into the shuttle. Amazing service. Checkin with Southwest was smooth and easy. The flight was great although we did have a bit of turbulence and we landed in the middle of a rainstorm. Although we used Magical Express we pick up our own bags and that took about 45 minutes which was the longest that we've ever had to wait for our bags but we suspect that was because of the bad weather. I believe that they halted take-offs and landings for a few minutes because the rain was that bad.
Magical Express checkin was quick and easy and then we were on the bus. We had to wait while the bus filled up a bit but then we were off to Pop which was the first stop for the bus. The bus driver was very funny and honked his horn in time to some of the music that was playing on the movie that you see on the way to the resort.
Checkin was fairly quick although the girl did make a mistake and I had to go back to the counter. I had put some cash money onto the room for charging and she printed out our room cards and stuffed them into an envelope. Luckily I checked the cards before we had left the building and realized that she had put on them "not valid for charging". I went back and she quickly changed the cards as we had the cash on the room and were able to charge them. Our room was on the ground floor in the 70's building. It was on the back side of the building but still wasn't really that far from the main building. I had ordered a fridge and had to call from the room to get it delivered which took about 15 minutes. (We didn't have to pay for the fridge as I have medication that has to be refridgerated - put this on the reservation and there wasn't a problem.) It took us about 2 hours from the time the plane landed to pick up our luggage, get to the resort and checkin and get to our room which wasn't that bad at all.
We had already decided to go to the Pepper Market for dinner which has become our tradition for the first night if we are on the dining plan. We unpacked and then decided that we would take the first bus to whatever park and then change over to the CSR bus. The first bus was to Epcot so off we went. Had no problem getting the CSR bus as it was waiting for us when we got there. We got to the Pepper Market around 6pm and we were surprised that it was practically empty. There were only about 3 other tables of people there. We asked the waiter and it appears that a lot of people had cancelled because of Hurricane Ike and he told us that the past 2 days the place had been empty.
We both had the ribeye steaks which were great with baked potatoes and veggies. We also both had a cinnamon bun for dessert. The food was great and a great value for a counter service meal on the dining plan. I took pictures of most of the food that we ate and will post when I have sorted through them.
After dinner we went over to MK as it was open late and it was empty as well. We noticed that there was still TS availability so we knew that the park had been empty. We walked onto the TTA and Buzz where I did amazingly well - I actually hit something that was worth 100,000 points -- don't ask me what because I haven't a clue. I don't usually do very well and am lucky to hit about 40,000 in total so I was excited. We walked around a bit and were amazed that the park seemed empty. We stayed until almost closing and then took our hot and tired selves back to Pop.
Next up September 11th.
