Thursday 24th November
Joe’s 5th Birthday!!
A day at the Studios today and Joe is very excited as we’re still on a mission for Stitch, and I have guaranteed to find him in the Studios!! Breakfast at the Sequoia today which is very nice, but as previously mentioned no Nutella
Arranged a cake with the concierge before leaving as we’ve booked Inventions for tonight.
Arrived for opening at 10am and headed straight for the Magic Carpets obviously! We went right up to the top!!! A big first for Joe. Had a few more goes with no waiting at all.
The 10.30am parade was next on the agenda. A little mini-parade with mainly characters, but that was fine by us. We followed the parade to Production Courtyard where they all got off their floats and mingled. We got loads of personal attention due to the low crowds – getting autographs off Woody(!!!), Jessie, Brother Bears x 2, A snowball and a Christmas tree (??!), and the piece de la resistance was Chip who wrote “To Joe love Chip” !!! This was because he remembered Joe from last year
After a snack for Joe (no brekkie, see?) we headed for Animagique where, guess who????? STITCH!!!! Lynford Christie would have struggled to keep up! Just as it was Joe’s turn though, he had to go!!!!! I don’t have to explain the disappointment to you lot! Anyway we carried on to Animagique which was brilliant as always. We love this show.
After Animagique we saw the back of Stitch again – unbelievable. Joe was somewhat mollified this time by the appearance of Mr & Mrs Incredible and Chicken Little. After a go on the tram tour for Joe to shoot the dragon with his Space Blaster with Nightscope, we broke for lunch.
(Wonder why DH wanted to be in this one??!)
I headed for Studio 1 to ask information when Stitch would reappear – she got on the bat phone to discover it was 2.30pm. We had lunch from Restaurant En Coulisse, where we were lucky enough to get a table right beneath the makeshift stage that appeared for two fishnet stocking-clad girls for an impromptu performance. DH was pleased! After lunch, the parade came through which is great at the Studios because there are no crowds. Every character waves at you personally.
We then tried for another first, Armageddon. Joe was a bit anxious but a lovely CM came up to reassure him. She said that it wasn’t scary at all, just loud, but he didn’t have to go in if he didn’t want to. Anyway, he had a ball in the preshow bit, pretending to be scared and panicked on cue. He was quite unconcerned with all the exploding fireball stuff though!
By now the magic 2.30 was upon us so we headed back to animation courtyard and hung about like groupies. Sure enough, the little blue experiment appeared on cue and all was well with Planet Joe.
The money shot!
After a few more carpet rides, Joe was exhausted so we headed back to the Sequoia for a rest. We missed quite a bit this time, but we have done it before and we had a lovely day with what we did do.
Popped into the lounge at the Sequoia for a drink and a snack, it’s a really lovely place to relax. We had cappuccinos, and Joe had a kids cocktail shaker.
After the rest it was time to catch the evening rides and Fantillusion again. By this time however, it was raining cats & dogs and Joe was shattered. He went to sleep on the shuttle bus back to the park, so we loaded him into the trolley where he remained out for the count. We decided to do a bit of shopping for pressies while the rain poured. My mum wanted a Pirates hat for my dad so we headed there. DH babysat sleeping Joe while we had a go on the ride again. We were walking through the queuing area when this apparition jumped down from a wall!!! He was a pirate with a black scarf completely covering his face! Very scary. He caught mum and held a sword to her throat, while I did the obvious brave thing – shrieked and ran! We ran laughing all the way to the ride which was empty so we had two goes!
Decided to skip Fantillusion in the deluge so we did a bit more shopping, and then woke up a very grumpy Joe, who brightened up considerably when we headed for his birthday party.
Inventions was fantastic – character interaction was great. DH is still raving about the quality of the food there, it was right up his street. I enjoyed the deserts. (Even knowing a cake was coming). When the cake came with a big fanfare, Joe’s new best friend Chip came too! It was a real treat.
Caught the shuttle bus home to the Sequoia and visited the lovely lounge again for after dinner drinks. Joe loved his flashing glass. Headed for bed exhausted & happy.
