Me31, DH31, DS6 and DD4. Going to PCB so DH can compete in the Gulf Coast Triathlon.
We always drive and this time I bought a portable DVD player so we could watch movies on the long drive. Best thing I ever did! It worked perfectly. Our kids never complained once about being in the car for so long and it really made the time go by faster.
I would recommend one of these or a laptop to anyone driving down to Florida.
Somewhere in Kentucky half of the hood on our Jeep popped up while we were driving 70 mph. This was really scary and we had to immediately pull off to the side of the road. I had our oil changed the day before we left and I can only assume the hood wasn't closed properly so I will double check that from now on. I was relieved the entire hood didn't come up because it probably would have bent back and shattered our wind shield and made for a pretty bad situation.
Arrival in PCB
We had booked the Edgewater Beach Resort because they said they were the "best" place to stay in PCB. WRONG!!!!!!!!!
We arrived there around 10 pm on our second day of driving from Michigan. We checked into our first room which was dirty and the balcony door latches were broken-not good for a family with 2 young children. After seeing our 5th condo and finding them all to be completely disgusting-water stains all over, mold in the showers, dirty kitchens, etc. I got our deposit back and called the Marriott from our cell phone and they told me to come on over.
On our way to the Marriott we passed a Hampton Inn and decided to pull in there-my DH was pretty upset. All of this was starting to interfere with him getting in his triathlon "mood". I was upset because I didn't want anything else to go wrong because he really needed to start mentally preparing for his race and all of this was just creating uncertainty. The Hampton Inn had rooms and they were shocked when I told them about our experience at the Edgewater.
We stayed in a great room the first night-a fridge, microwave, clean. The next morning I asked about moving to a suite because my DH likes to sleep in a seperate room the night before a race. WOW. $100 was all we paid for the suite and it was huge. It had a kitchen, a room with a king bed, living room with the most comfortable sleeper sofa I have ever slept on and a bathroom with a huge whirlpool tub. We were very happy and my DH spent the day Friday near the Boardwalk Beach Resort racking his bike for the race and registering. We went down there with him and kept ourselves busy.
On Friday, we ate lunch at a place called Pineapple Willeys. YUM!
We had a perfect meal. The service and the food were awesome. We can't wait to go back to this place.
The staff at the Hampton Inn couldn't have been nicer. They even made goody bags with water, fruit and a granola bar and had them out in the lobby at 4am for all of the triathletes that were in the race to take with them. They did several special things like this. They had a beautiful pool and we will definately be staying here again.
