I'm shocked to say that the last time my sister, Christine, and I were at the park was on September 26. That means we missed the entire month of October and all of the Halloween decor! We saw a little of it on the 26th, but I would have loved to have gone some time that month!
On top of that bummer, Christine missed going on her actual 30th birthday, November 6. On that day, I was flying home from a week-long stay in Michigan and she was currently up in Studio City pet-sitting at our friend's house, Wally. I flew into San Diego at 10:20 a.m. and Mom came and got me. We both went home for me to change, shower, and then we both packed an overnight bag for Wally's house. We arrived at 5:30 in the evening. Unfortunately, with DL's winter hours, there was no way Christine could go for her birthday after Mom and I got to Studio City so late. Instead, we took her over to Universal City Walk to have dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe and then look around at the shops. Having said all that, here's the report for DL for November 7!
After leaving Wally's from Studio City, we arrived at the front gate at 10:30 a.m. We headed straight over to the Carnation Cafe to have breakfast. At one point, Christine got up to quickly go over to City Hall to get a birthday sticker. It was the day after, but she didn't care. She really wanted one! She ended up getting a birthday button! Must be something new they started there! She got her message from Goofy and then went to return to our table. The famous Oscar was making rounds at each table, seeing how everyone was doing. He came to our table and saw Christine's birthday button. He asked if she were 21 and she smiled.
Being pressed for time, this will be another shorter review, seeing as we couldn't stay very long today. Christine had to be to work at 3:30 and that meant leaving around 1:00-2:00! Not very much we can do, but we certainly tried!
After breakfast, we walked through Sleeping Beauty Castle to see a very short line for Peter Pan! Only 15 minute wait. This was the start of a beautiful day. NO CROWDS!!! Next, it was a run over to Space Mountain by Christine's request. That shocked me, but I loved her thinking! That was only a 10 minute wait with the line starting near the boarding zone! Awesome! Star Tours had no line outside, but Mom didn't want to do it. Her back was hurting, and such and such. Drat! Instead, we made our way to NOS to get to POTC (Captain Barbossa is now painted on the wall inside! YAY!!!!), followed by HM (out of that whole NBC theme, Jack is the BEST!).
Time was running out at that point. We went over to Frontierland to see if we could get on BTMRR. It was a 5 minute wait, but the ride was closed! Strange enough, when we walked past it, not only did we see people being escorted out, we saw a train go by with some riders still on it!
We reached Fantasyland and went to see if Alice in Wonderland had a long wait. Christine had her Alice shirt on, her blonde hair makes her look like Alice, she has dressed as Alice for Halloween many times, it was still considered her birthday, so...we went to do it. CLOSED!! Had to come back later.
We went back over to Tomorrowland again and finally hopped on Star Tours. NO LINE AT ALL!!!! We walked all the way through and didn't stop until we were at the door for the ride, getting front row seats. Mom actually prefers that row; it didn't hurt her back at all!
By then, we really had to get going. It was after 1:30. We went to Main Street to buy some water while Christine ducked into a store to buy her Cheshire Cat plushie. Every time she dresses as Alice, she's often mistaken for either Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, Belle from Beauty and the Beast, or even Little Bo Peep! With a Cheshire Cat plushie in hand, there should be no mistakes from people!
Mom went to the bathroom and I used that opportunity to get some photos with Goofy and Donald who were standing nearby. All the characters are wearing their new Year of A Million Dreams clothing. This was funny; the park was so empty today, even the characters didn't have lines to get photos! Goofy kind of stood around looking bored, as did Donald! Christine and I got photos and then I left to get a photo of the new Mickey head on the grass lawn.
We left for home after that. Christine was a little late (due to traffic), but she called a head of time to say she'd be a few minutes late.
And that's it! Despite the ungodly weather that day (upper 90's), I enjoyed the park being so empty and quiet!
