I've read the other recent threads about vacations. I want to go on a trip, but I can't decide where I want to go. I would love to back to Disney, but my husband is not ready for that yet. Other than that my husband is pretty much game for anything. There is just my husband and I. Where have you gone either for a weekend getaway or for a vacation that you absolutely loved and would suggest to other people? :goodvibes

How about Toronto? It's a great city with so many things to do.

Depending on what you like to do, there are so many choices. For a relaxing vacation in a beautiful location, I loved Prince Edward Island (though only in the summer).

New Mexico - Santa Fe and Albaquerque are wonderful cities with their old towns, and the mountains and the deserts. Both the siteseeing and the shopping can't be beat.

Portland, OR and/or Seattle. The Oregon Coast.

How about Chicago? Too many wonderful places to list.

PS - Used to live in Western PA before moving to the Midwest.

It is just my husband and I also. We love vacations and of course love Disney too but make it a point to try other places. Here is a few that we love:

Chicago-- city life, musuems, food and of course shopping

San Diego/Southern CA-- rented a convertible for the week and loved the laid back atmosphere and the beaches and just hanging out

The smoky mountains--rented a cabin, went to town some, played mini-golf, toured the mountains, and just enjoyed being together

Road trip--here we pick a part of the country we want to see and fly to an airport, pick our destinations and drive back to the airport when we are done.

This year when my dh gets home from Iraq for good we are doing a cruise to Hawaii. This is going to be a big blow out vacation lol so I can only imagine the price tag.

Have you thought about cruise? This will be our first but have heard great things about them. Good luck and happy vacationing.

My husband just deployed to Iraq and before he left we flew out to Southern California to spend a weekend with him. I never had a desire to see california but I feel in love with it. We had the best time. There is SOOOO much to do and the weather is GREAT.

When moved last year from NC to WA and when we were driving out we loved South Dakota. We stopped at the Badlands which are gorgeous and have alot of hiking trails with buffalo and prairie dogs, great if you like being outdoors. We also stopped at Mt. Rushmore and there were alot of things to do in that area as well.

Do you like more outdoorsy things or more city sight seeing type things??

Boston, Washington DC, Nantucket, Maine.

The possibilities are endless. Unfortunately, my cash and vacation days are not.

Stroll down the travel aisle at the library. That should inspire you.

Sheila

I'm thinking being where you are you could easily do Washington D.C. or NYC for a long weekend.

On the more unique side we've done (these would all be long weekend type of trips)--

Hocking Hills Ohio-- We rented a gorgeous cabin w/ a hottub (there are tons in the are to pick from). They had some really great unique shops, easy hikes w/ very pretty caverns and waterfalls, great dining.

Also have you tried Cooks Forest in PA??? I know it sits inbetween Clarion and Warren. It's a warm weather place- that has a ton to do during the summer. You can camp, stay in great rustic-deluxe cabins. There is tubing and canoeing in the creek, as well as hiking, fishing, all the toursit trap stuff like shops (tons), mini golf, mini waterparks, mini amusement parks, ect....

We did Colonial Williamsburg (along with Busch Gardens, etc) this summer. It would be really nice for just a couple (we had our DD6 with us). Depending on where you are in PA, it's not so bad a ride. We're just outside Philadelphia, and it was about 6 hours.

DH & I love cruising. If it were only the 2 of us, we would never travel any other way. Unfortunately, our DS(13) doesn't like cruising.

Other vacation destinations we enjoy:
San Antonio
New Orleans (Although, we haven't been since Hurricane Katrina)
Las Vegas
Williamsburg, VA
Key West
Myrtle Beach, SC

If you want to leave the US, I have more ideas. :teeth:

Thanks for all the suggestions. Some destinations have sparked my interest. Now comes the fun part -- planning. :goodvibes

Cook Forest really is nice during the summer! We camp there all during the summer for weekend trips. I'm not sure what part of PA you're in, but you could always go to Niagara Falls, Cook Forest, Hershey (if you're not already close to there), Pittsburgh, Philly, take a trip to Cleveland to visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and other places, DC, VA, NJ, lots to do from where you are for a weekend trip! :)

I'm lucky enough to live in the world's finest city - San diego. Truly a great place to visit. Also been to Mexico (inexpensive once you get there) and hawaii. The best island is Kauai and the best guidebook is the ultimate kauai guidebook - AWESOME!

You are in an enviable position in that you husband is so open and you are good to go... Have a geat time. :smooth:
