I just got my package details in the mail from my aaa agent. In it it has some insurance paper, I have to sign it and send it back telling her I want insurance or I don't want it.
We are going August 27-September 3, next year...would you get insurance??

For me, it would depend on who's going and how much the trip cost. When DH and I took his parents to Alaska on a fairly pricey trip, we got insurance just in case somethign came up with one of them and we had to cancel. If it's just the two of us on a less expensive trip, I generally don't get it because it would be a rare thing for us to have to cancel.

Also, price out your insurance at different places. Often times it's more expensive to get insurance from the company the trip is with (like Disney or a cruiseline directly). Try insuremytrip.com or csatravel.com.

My mom & dad are pastors and my husband and I are youth pastors. This alone was reason enough to buy trip insurance b/c there is always something coming up (deaths, sicknesses, etc.). Also, we are travelling with our 2 DD's (3 and 8 mo. old) and I just wanted it for the extra medical as my insurance does not cover anything except life or limb outside of the state of La.

I did not, however, buy my insurance from Disney. I found it much cheaper and with more coverage through a company called Travelex. Children under 16 are free with adult coverage.

PM me if you need more infomation.

Have a GR8 Trip!!!

Besides trying to sell you insurance, this is also a method of the TA covering themselves in case something goes wrong and you don't have insurance, you can't blame the TA for not trying to get you to buy it.

We used to always buy trip ins. Our oldest had severe asthma and several trips to ER and hospital weeks make you learn really fast how quickly things can change. That being said, he has had no asthma or other health problems for a couple of years now, so we won't be getting insurance. Even if you don't have insurance I'm pretty sure Disney and other places will work with you for "a small fee" :goodvibes

You are going during hurricane season. I would seriously look into it.

www.insuremytrip.com is a great site to compare policies. I too went with Travelex (Lite) for our cruise and will be going back to them for our WDW trip.

I have VERY strong feelings about travel insurance...I am sure you will be able to tell which side I am on very soon :)

Most people do not understand what trip insurance really is....it usually only covers you in the event you are unable to depart to your destination or covers expenses in your leaving a destination due to catostrauphic circumstances. Once you arrive it does not cover the loss of money for time you missed at the resort...at least that was my personal experience with the insurance offered by AAA when were in Mexico during hurricaine Emily in July of 2005. They would have covered a flight home and NEW hotel reservations in a new location in transit but as it was there were none to be had and nowhere to go....for someplace like disney in the event of a similar occurance you are probably better off staying there until your scheduled depature anyway so the trip insurance really would not help very much. Now there are often severe illness or bodily injury coverages, but really, how often does that happen and most people, I know not ALL...but MOST who can afford to stay on site at disney probably have insurance that would be covering it anyway...so my vote is the "heck" with travel insurance I have never heard of one instance where the insurance company could not get out of paying off a claim and since they are usually for travel only realated expenses who really wants to go through the trouble of fighting with an insurance company for a few days loss of vacation. I am firm believer in insurance in general dont get me wrong but I think the risk versus the cost of trip insurance to disney is really not worth it....now I guess I should state that this is for US travelers and international travelers may have more significant need for this coverage...due to the added costs of travel and virtue of the distance from home.

hope this helps

We were at WDW when Wilma came ashore. The few days prior were tense cause we weren't sure if the trip would be a go or no go. Next time around we will purchase travel insurance. You will be in the midst of hurricane season so you might want to have some insurance just in case.

we bought the disney offered ins-i did not know about other options-anyway it was only around $90 or so if my memory is right-a small price to pay for a major expense like this-we have elderly parents , aunts etc- i guess it is peace of mind in the unlikely event something happens-btw the fee was for 2 adults & 3 kids(all over 14).
4 days to go!!! :Pinkbounc   :bounce:

I don't buy trip insurance for my trips to WDW because I don't buy pachages. However, if I had an expensive package, or were going on a cruise...you bet I'd buy it.

My sister was supposed to go on a cruise with me last April. Three days before, she had to cancel because her husband needed quadruple bypass surgery. Shs was very glad she had the insurance, or she would've been out the money for the cruise.
