I recall having read online that it's better to not purchase trip insurance through Disney because it's cheaper and you get better coverage buying it through a different company. I'm assuming that's the case with Universal as well. Please correct me if that's not the case.

Please share what you've found as the best options for purchasing trip insurance.

Thanks!

We have purchased through our insurance company (who actually outsources it, but the think was through their site). Wish we had bought it for our 2008 trip when one child ended up having emergency surgery our first day there, we spent the remainder of the trip with one parent at the hospital and the other at the park with our other child--first child never even made it to the parks.

We've purchased the Disney-provided insurance, but whether or not you use theirs, if you're not comfortable with writing off your vacation, and your other insurances won't cover incidental or medical expenses, trip insurance is a good idea.

I like to tell my sister's story. She got sick between Rome and Dubrovnik on a Mediterranean cruise. The boat left her and her DH in Croatia, where she spent another week in the hospital. Their trip insurance paid the cost of the hospitalization, DH's extra costs, and their flight to get back to the US. The total benefit was far above their premium.
