Trip Insurance>>to take or not to......?

Okay guys - help me out here - I have only purchased insurance for one of trips once and it was one recommended by our TA at the time. We have not gotten one in a long time. But I have a question re: trip insurance - for my son's high school trip to Italy next summer.

I looked at some of the websites/links that were posted here. I am so confused and do not know what would be a good plan to consider purchasing. I know with the tour company, they are offering two and the top one is $200 and only covers up to $1,500 refund and up to $750 in a credit with the tour company (which is a waste of credit since he will be a senior and will not be touring with them at a later date). Total trip is $2,800 and he is now 17. What do I look for? Any suggestions? Tips? Thanks.

Some thoughts:

His age: 17: Not likely to get sick, normally.

Cost: Should be less than 5% of trip. If you are paying 200 to save 1,500, I wouldn't.

Consider one of the insurance companies hear, and if you get total trip coverage for under $100, it is a GREAT peace of mind.

Otherwise, the deal cited isn't worth it.

Yes, absolutely and without question.

This was a $10,000 excursion and with small children who knew if one was going to get sick the day before departure with something dreadful. Or we miss the flight. Or the car breaks down....or or a 1000 other things.

You may purchase it and not need it many times, however, that one time you end up needing it you will be glad you got it. I say definately get it.

I don't know your dates, but I put in for a week (June 20 - 27, 2006) at insuremytrip.com. Several quotes came back right around $100.00.

One under $100 (at $99), most about $102, $107, $101, $111.

It looks like you can get it for around $100 that will include, medical coverage, trip refund, baggage delay, etc. Be sure to read the policy coverages prior to purchasing, but it looks like you can do it for about $100. Good luck.
