I know some have been wondering what trip insurance actually covered with the hurricane issues.....

We claimed $923.06 (hotel, meals, car) for 3 nights due to the delay with Hurricane Jeanne, and we are getting all but $23.06 of it back (perhaps they took a look at the wine from our grocery store stop and figured that was not really something we could claim!)

So, it all worked out well....

If we didn't have it, all of that would have been out of pocket, so it was well worth it to pay the $200 some odd dollars to cover a three week trip, so we "saved" $700.

Just another vote for trip insurance.

Who did you have your insurance thru? I purchased mine thru Disney---Glad to hear you got all your monies back!!! I had to use the insurance a couple of years ago due to my father having a heart attack before we were to leave---and I got all my money back as well. I vote for the insurance too!!! Better to have it and not have to use it---but it is there if you need it!!!

That is exactly why I get insurance everytime we take a vacation! You just never know! Congradulations on getting your money back.

That is great...I claimed about $600.00 and have not heard anything yet. I put in for three nights hotel (only the difference on price for the 1st night since we were booked at the Radisson at the Port), all meals and difference in rental car for the additional 3 days we had to keep it.

Hey two-foxes, thanks for the update. I called the insurance company today to make sure they had everything they needed from us. They said they do, but were waiting for some information from Disney.

I am correct in remembering you went on the shortened cruise? So you also got the 40% refund? I was wondering if the insurance companies would pay or deny claims because of the refund.

We've claimed $1,100.00, two nights at a hotel, food, supplies and cell phone bill. We had to make lots of calls to traveling companions at home, DCL and the travel agent.

When did you file your claim? I'm curious how quickly you got your check.

Thanks again for keeping us posted.

WAY TO GO JILL!

We have not heard anything either and am worried sick they will try to tell us we got money back from Disney to cover the days around Florida.............

What do you mean they aren't going to cover all the beers and fruity drinks we drank at every tiki bar on every coast of Florida? Those drinks were a NEED not a want.

We are still holding our breath.....................

Missy

Did any of you use the DCL insurance. I foolishly cleaned out all my extra docs, and I have no contact info for the DCL insurances. If anyone can help with contact info, I would greatly appreciate it.

We did in fact book our insurance through Disney. The company is Access America and their phone number is 1-800-573-5665. Hope this helps.

We booked the insurance on our own at www.accessamerica.com

We were on the 9/25....or 9/27 cruise! I was under the impression by access america that they would take into account what Disney refunded us when doing our claim...that came right from one of their operators. I think they will consider things like if you left for the trip as origonally scheduled ever after you knew the cruise was delayed, etc. We were smack dab in the middle of our vacation when all this happened, and we took on these unexpected costs as a result... I made sure I made that clear when making our claim.

I also know that we were held to $150 per person, per day total, so if you're claiming more than that, you may not get that.....I think that is why we got $900 even....for the hotel on 24th, 25th and 26th, and meals from the 25th-27th. (They just counted it as 3 days, maybe?)

Missy, I so think that the drinks were a needed thing too!

Hey Guys!
we submitted 1658.20 to Travelex and are receiving 1603.94. (i guess Corona and Hot sauce aren't seen as necessities!) I am sooo happy-we have been so nervous after reading these threads on wether we would be reimbursed. i saved all reciepts, along with all the notices of evacuation and such and submitted on 10/5. they said 2 checks were mailed out on 10/25-not bad. and i never had to call and defend myself. travelex is definitely getting my repeat business! hope everyone elses experience is just as good! Missy-I'm missing those Heavenly Beds at the Westin! How about you!?

I called Access Amercia tonight to check on the status of our claim. They issued us a check today for $775.93. That's about $330 short of what we filed. I'll see what they dis-allowed when the check comes in. It may be something I can dispute and if not, we're still pretty well ahead when you factor in our refund.

I'll keep y'all posted.

Hi,

I've talked to Access America many times over the last few weeks. They only pay for hotels, food, and transportation (like taxis or rental car) related to extended stays. They don't pay phone bills. We also go hit with a big cell phone bill because we went over our minute limit as a result of calls to DCL, the airlines and the Wilderness Lodge.

Glad to hear they will pay despite Disney's 40% refund. That seems fair since we didn't pay for a "Land and Sea" package. Also glad to hear they are picking up our hotel for Friday night.

Hey Darcy - hope you guys are well.

Speaking of cell phone bills, I got a $504 bill when we got home, seems they (ATT) billed me for all the calls in Orlando, even when I have nationwide long distance with no roaming charges! I completely freaked out, but they gave me the refund quickly....but I just about got sick when I saw that bill!

I finally called our insurance yesterday and they could not find my claim! We sent it with a delivery confirmation via usmail and they would call me back later. Never received a return call, so I called back and was put on hold for sometime. The adjuster got on the phone finally and said she had it on her desk and would get to it "soon".

Still holding our breath,

Just got off the phone with Access America and was told my claim was being paid...all but $83.00 out of $683.00 and a check would be in the mail on Monday...

I am more than satisfied with Access America and will buy insurance from them again!! I sent my claim and supporting documents in last week.

My claims adjuster was very pleasant and he even asked if Disney made it right with us by offering compensation...I told him yes and he said...Disney is very good at that!!!

Our experience has been pretty much the same. I sure can't complain about the turn around time, very, very quick. I do wish they covered cell phone bills, but again, between this claim and our 40% refund, we've been made quite whole.

We filed a claim through Travelex for our delayed baggage from our March cruise. We didn't get our bags until St. Maarten. We were reimbursed $300 by Delta Airlines and $217.89 by Travelex for clothes, shoes, etc. we had to buy in the mean time. I was more than satisfied - although I had to send receipts twice (because they wanted them itemized by person).

Essentially we got all of our souveniers free!

Our insurance check arrived today! Along with it was the breakdown of how the claim was paid. Basically they paid for everything we submitted, except a $55 total for food and supplies we bought. I apparently didn't copy the receipt and send it in with the rest of the paper work. They told me just to fax it in with a note and my claim number. So we should get that back.

They only paid $22 of our $264 cell phone bill. They only pay for calls made to DCL during the delay. So that was better than nothing.

Between this check and our cruise refund, we have more than made up for the extra expenses. And I'm really impressed with the speed at which Access America handled this claim. I think it was less than two full weeks from filing the claim to receving the check in hand. Their reps. were also all very pleasant, helpful and professional.

I have hoped that we would never have to use the travel insurance, we came really close once before. But I'm sure glad we had it this time and won't leave home without it.
