Trip insurance for Disney trip?

I'm so glad these posts are addressing the medical part of travel insurance - it's something most folks don't take into account! I actually was talking about credit card travel insurance that does not include medical (I can see where it is confusing - I'll edit for clarity) - Allianz does have wonderful travel insurance that includes medical but our CC travel insurance is equal to that offered by Allianz except there is no medical so it is cheaper to just purchase the medical only from Allianz. I know there are a lot of folks out there who don't know how important it is to have a medical insurance rider when leaving the country and that some travel insurance includes medical but many do not. I have many friends who assume their CC insurance is all they need and are shocked when I explain there is no medical insurance - travel insurance is something most everyone thinks about but the medical part is not. To clarify - we only purchase an Allianz medical rider when we travel internationally.
Ok gotcha! Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it!

We buy it. My feeling is that if it would hurt to lose that money, then it's worth protecting it. We've had 2 instances where we had to cancel travel plans at the last minute. Once was due to a blizzard and once because one of our kids became very ill right when it was time to go. (This poor kid has actually had 2 trips when he was ill on the trip as well. He has rotten luck.) Both of those were for much smaller, far less expensive travels, so we did not have insurance and we lost the money. But it wasn't an amount that hurt. But to lose a WDW trip's worth of money would hurt. So we pay for the insurance.

If you are considering the insurance as part of your Disney package, you can add it up until the time you are paid in full. It does cover your airfare even if you buy it separately yourself, if you are cancelling or delayed or leaving early for a covered reason. You can read the details on Disney's website: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/faq/hotel-reservations/travel-insurance-benefits/ and link to the insurance's state specific pages (I gather the coverage varies by state).

That said, I've only ever done room-only reservations, so I have not gotten it. And our medical insurance will work in Florida.

We buy trip insurance for every trip where it would hurt to lose the full amount of a trip. I figure $150 to insure a trip costing $7,000 is money well spent. Can the PP's who buy trip insurance for the year post where they get it from? Thanks!

I've only bought insurance when I take a cruise or am traveling out of the country. For cruises that leave a U.S. port I generally only buy medical evacuation. All out of country trips get the full coverage flights, hotels, cruise, medical, etc.

I agree with your logic. I usually just buy whatever is the preferred vendor for my package. I think my parents do the same, unless the travel agent they use for cruises has a vendor he recommends. My husband bought and used insurance for a work trip last fall; I don’t know what he bought, sorry.

I have priced out other vendors and compared before. Cheaper plans either had to be bought within 7-14 days of deposit or did not cover preexisting conditions as comprehensively as I need.
