Does anyone know if there is trip insurance that will cover pre-exisiting conditions? For example if I have a medical condition that flares up and prevents us from cruising as scheduled. I have looked at insurancemytrip.com and others and I can not figure out the policies. It looks like if you pay $154 you only get $800 back for cancellation? What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

I think with most of the travel insurances, if you buy the coverage at the same time of booking, or within a short period of time after inital deposit, lke a week or so, that preexisting conditions are covered. Otherwise, I don't think they are. But, all policies are different. You can call each company and get the information easily. I found it easier to ask specific questions than try to understand pages of written text.

We looked at insuremytrip.com, and then decided to go with AccessAmerica. I have heard on the board that this company has indeed payed off when necessary... Anyhow, then I went directly to the AccessAmerica site, where I was able to read all about their policies and coverages. First of all, remember, when you look at the amounts of coverages, they are listed per-person. So, if the amount of coverage you are requesting for the trip breaks down to $800.00 per person????

Okay, I was also confused on the pre-existing... I actually called AccessAmerica, especially since we did NOT book our coverage when we booked out trip. So, no waiver for us!!! I was told that, basicly, they go back 120days from the date you book your coverage. Any condition that has required treatment, or a change in treatment, would then be considered 'pre-existiing'.

So, if nobody involved has required medical treatment for the last 120 days, then all should be fine.

I used AccessAmerica. You must purchase trip insurance up to two weeks of leaving a deposit and making reservations in order for them to waive pre-existing conditions. The pre-existing conditions are for cruise travelers and also for family members not travelling with you. I do this because I have elderly parents and a sister with a cronic illness. It gives me piece of mind..The cost for two adults on a 7 night cruise and 3 night post cruise stay was - age 55 & 56 - $117 total.
