I am not sure if this is the right place to post this so please let me know !
My sis in law is coming in her with her family from India(her DH & DD age 12). They are planning a Disney trip from May 6th till May 12th 2007. Earlier we were planning on joining them too(me, DH, DS5 & DS3). However yesterday I was looking at some weather info and the temps are supposed to be in the higher 80z. Also some schools in Florida are already in their summer vacation so the crowd levels will be high too ! We are now thinking we will just go on our own in January 2008. Any suggestions ?? With the crowd levels my boys may not react that well and we have the option of going later when the weather is better then why not is my point !!

There is no question that the crowds and temperature will be more comfortable in Jan.

I don't know how it works in your family, but my family would be up in arms if we cancelled a 'family' trip that was already scheduled, just for our convenience. Especially if one part of the family could only be there at the cancelled time.

I guess that to me those are actually two different types of trips. There are the 'extended family' vacations where the purpose is to get together with family. Then there are the just for us vacations. I think you have to figure out how upset the rest of your family will be and then decide if the convenience is worth it.

Thanks for your response ! They had already decided to go before we ever started thinking about joining them..
And also there are almost no common rides for my neice and my boys so we will actually not be spending any time together :-( If we dont end up going then we will take a small beach vacation somewhere and also they
will be coming to our place in Chicago for a few days !!!

In this case, since it doesn't appear that your family will be upset, I'd go whenever was best for you. There really isn't a 'bad' Disney trip, but some can be better than others. I'm a big believer that the smaller the crowds, the better the trip! :thumbsup2 Have a great time, no matter what you decide!

I was fortunate to have taken 2 May trips this year. The first with adult friends May 1 to 4 and the second to celebrate my DD's 7th birthday May 19 to 23. The crowds were lighter and weather cooler on the first trip. I think the crowds would be very managable for May 6 to 12. I have also been to WDW once in Jan (3rd to 10th 2004) and the crowds were much higher than anticipated. I didn't know about the marathon before booking and it did increase the crowds. And it was COLD. We had night time temps in the 30's and some days were only in the 50's. I would rather tour WDW in the heat of May than the potential cold of January.

My family vacationed at WDW May 7-11 of this year. The weather was much hotter than I expected (mid-90s). In fact, one of my children suffered from mild heat exhaustion during the trip. The crowds weren't as bad as when I was there one July, but they were by no means light.

We're headed back in late January of '07 for our next Mickey fix, hoping to avoid the heat and crowds! ;)

We have done Disney in May 3 times. Each time was high 80's and early 90's. Make sure you have fluids, a hat and enjoy. The park is busy but not as bad as the Christmas holiday time. We are also heading to Disney next may again. It is a great time of year to go.

Just curious, do you happen to know if a large porportion of the schools are on summer vacation during this time frame or is it a select few? I am just concerned how big of an impact this might potentially have on crowd levels at this time. Thanks!!

We will be there May12-18th. Honestly we are ready for some warmth by then. :thumbsup2

Keep in mind that you may not be able to utilize the water parks if you go in January. My DD's 5 and 9 would be crushed if they couldn't do that. Also, some of rides are under refurbishment in January, which can also be devastating to some kids. As for weather, I have been to WDW in Feb. and it has been in the 90's or the 40's. You never know what the weather may hold in Florida. I would rather go in May, when crowds are not too bad and the weather isn't too hot or cold. Who wants to spend their vacation at Disney shivering and having to carry coats around that you'll have to take off every time you go to an inside attraction?
