EDITED TO ADD BEFORE ANY OTHER ASSUMPTIONS ARE MADE: My boys are definitely helping pay their way, we have ALL been saving for 3 years. I'd rather spend money and share memories with my boys now while I am still here than take it with me when I die.... in any event they are helping pay their way too.

Hey everyone! So originally our trip was scheduled twice/ once in 2020, and once in 2021. After 2 cancellations, We eventually moved our cruise out to Oct 2022 to ensure a better chance of it happening. We are departing from our usual DCL concierge cruise and are booked to try our first Star class cruise on RCCL. We figured with our 2 boys (age 25/29) joining us, there is much more to keep them occupied on RCCL, and because I love concierge room cruising, star class seemed a good compromise to get a comparable experience.
So.... of course as we all know, we can't be in Florida and miss the mouse's house! My boys wanted us to do a week at WDW prior to the cruise, a day at Kennedy space, then the cruise, then about 3 days at Universal to end up our trip. We've been saving for over 3 years and as you can imagine it's really pricey. I just made the decision the other day to drop the Disney portion of the trip because it was literally adding on approx 15K with food costs to the trip (USD) so saving that in Canadian we are talking about 20K once exchange rate is factored in. So pricey and I hadn't even factored in the new genie pass/ lightning passes. We need 2 rooms as the boys are adults and want their own space. Wilderness Lodge was pricing at 6.5 K each room for a week in a Club level room (the way we like to stay at Disney) with 5 day park hoppers. Now I could have booked us at GDT for about 2K less, but still pricey. While disappointing, I just had to make that decision that we can still have a fabulous trip without Disney and only the cruise and Universal added at the end. ( I still need to book excursions / tips for our Genie and specialty dining, airfare, car fare for airport >> Port Canaveral>> Universal and back to airport).
Life is getting in the way of my wants and I had to tone it down to be more financially responsible. We will need a new car next spring and are paying off some debt from having a AC installed this summer, so the thought of scrimping for another 20 grand was daunting. I knew it would be expensive because of how we like to travel (club level) but I didn't realize how expensive once everything added up! While I will miss WDW so much, I think it better to probably hold off another couple years to visit again until Covid and restrictions are a slightly fainter memory.
I am just happy we are travelling again after 3 years since our last major trip, it's been a very missed part of our lives! Thanks for listening and letting me vent some of my disappointment. Keeping a positive outlook though for what we CAN do, and the memories we will make with our boys.

I am sure you will have fun on your RCL cruise (and isn't it nice you book everything in CAD? so much less stressful than worrying about exchange rates!).

Disney is pricey for sure, we just stayed at POP for a week, and it was more than I had planned (boy my kid can eat lol). I don't think we'll be back there for awhile, perhaps we'll try Universal next, it would have been cheaper but I really missed Disney. Any way! I bet you will have a fun trip no matter what you end up doing. We can't wait to cruise again, I have a sort of Back to Back booked for March break (we're doing 4 night on Independence of the Seas, two nights in Florida, then 7 night on Harmony of the Seas) and cannot wait to go, even if they were to cancel all the ports lol (though kiddo desperately wants to do Coco Cay waterpark).

Hi!! Thanks for your reply :) I haven't booked in CDN $$ as it's all in USD. But I do have a American USD visa and will put everything on there then pay with my USD bank account. I try to buy USD funds through knightsbridge when the $ is at least .80 or better... but it still has taken a long time to save and the $$ has not been the greatest the last couple years. Exciting trip you have planned for your back to back! Our cruise is on the Harmony in Oct 2022, in the 2 bedroom Aqua theatre suite. Everyone is so excited, and have watched many youtube on the Harmony, making it the most anticipated part of our upcoming trip :) It will be so nice to relax and be on the water again. As much as I will miss WDW, I won't miss the crazy walking that trip entails! I look forward to visiting again hopefully within another couple years. I'm really looking forward to trying out the Beach Club at coco Cay, but I bet when my boys see that water park, they may decide to spend their time there as well! LOLOL Have a fabulous trip!

Not to be rude, but can't a 25 and 29 year old pay for their own WDW vacation if they want it? I have a 28 year old, and no way am I still paying for his vacations. He makes more money than I do. My days of paying for all his Disney trips are behind us.

@chimo2u we just got back Sunday from Disney and my feet still hurt... I didn't plan it far enough in advance to do my usual walking build up before hand and am paying for it! That is one nice thing about cruises, while there is still walking, and stairs since we often avoid the busy elevators, it's nothing compared to Disney walking lol.

As I mentioned, WE have been saving for 3 years....so yes, my boys are contributing to the vacation. To me memories mean more than money, so if I contribute more than them, I will gladly to share time with them making family memories. Regardless, they are helping save as well
