EDITED TO ADD BEFORE ANY OTHER ASSUMPTIONS ARE MADE: My boys are definitely helping pay their way, we have ALL been saving for 3 years. I'd rather spend money and share memories with my boys now while I am still here than take it with me when I die.... in any event they are helping pay their way too.

Hey everyone! So originally our trip was scheduled twice/ once in 2020, and once in 2021. After 2 cancellations, We eventually moved our cruise out to Oct 2022 to ensure a better chance of it happening. We are departing from our usual DCL concierge cruise and are booked to try our first Star class cruise on RCCL. We figured with our 2 boys (age 25/29) joining us, there is much more to keep them occupied on RCCL, and because I love concierge room cruising, star class seemed a good compromise to get a comparable experience.
So.... of course as we all know, we can't be in Florida and miss the mouse's house! My boys wanted us to do a week at WDW prior to the cruise, a day at Kennedy space, then the cruise, then about 3 days at Universal to end up our trip. We've been saving for over 3 years and as you can imagine it's really pricey. I just made the decision the other day to drop the Disney portion of the trip because it was literally adding on approx 15K with food costs to the trip (USD) so saving that in Canadian we are talking about 20K once exchange rate is factored in. So pricey and I hadn't even factored in the new genie pass/ lightning passes. We need 2 rooms as the boys are adults and want their own space. Wilderness Lodge was pricing at 6.5 K each room for a week in a Club level room (the way we like to stay at Disney) with 5 day park hoppers. Now I could have booked us at GDT for about 2K less, but still pricey. While disappointing, I just had to make that decision that we can still have a fabulous trip without Disney and only the cruise and Universal added at the end. ( I still need to book excursions / tips for our Genie and specialty dining, airfare, car fare for airport >> Port Canaveral>> Universal and back to airport).
Life is getting in the way of my wants and I had to tone it down to be more financially responsible. We will need a new car next spring and are paying off some debt from having a AC installed this summer, so the thought of scrimping for another 20 grand was daunting. I knew it would be expensive because of how we like to travel (club level) but I didn't realize how expensive once everything added up! While I will miss WDW so much, I think it better to probably hold off another couple years to visit again until Covid and restrictions are a slightly fainter memory.
I am just happy we are travelling again after 3 years since our last major trip, it's been a very missed part of our lives! Thanks for listening and letting me vent some of my disappointment. Keeping a positive outlook though for what we CAN do, and the memories we will make with our boys.
