Trip Cancellation?

Good Morning-

I’d be grateful for any advice as I am in a very difficult situation.

My family was set to cruise on January 13th. My wife and I are both fully vaccinated and were under the impression that my 5 and 3 year olds just needed a negative test to board the ship. I booked this cruise back in November with a DCL rep over the phone. I was told that a negative test was all that was needed for my kids as well. I stumbled across the new vaccination policy for kids two days ago and I’m now at the point where my daughter can’t be vaccinated in time to board the ship. Is cancelling the trip through my insurance the only option? It appears I will only get 25% back from what I can tell. This makes me sick to my stomach and I would be appreciative of any advice you could give me. I’m so frustrated as I never received a notice via email or any type of notification from Disney.

Thank you kindly.

I would call DCL and ask to speak with someone in guest services regarding the fact you never received notice from them regarding the new vaccination guidelines. You may want to check your e-mail, however, as I've gotten notices about a month prior to sailings with check-in info plus current policies. At this point, if you can't cancel, perhaps ask if you can reschedule your cruise?

I would not expect a refund, but I think they would likely allow you to move the reservation for a later date when your 5 year old is fully vaccinated.

You should have received an email from DCL about the new policy and an opportunity to cancel without penalty at that time. Regardless, if you call and explain the problem, they might accommodate and give you a refund. And as another poster mentioned, once you're within 14 days of the cruise, you can cancel due to Covid exposure or symptoms and get a full refund, as well.

It sounds like you probably booked just before the new rule was announced, which I think was in the early part of November. I recommend calling DCL and plead your case. Hopefully they will let you either cancel or reschedule. IF NOT - you can wait until you are within 14 days and use the Covid policy to cancel.

You should be able to cancel within the 14 day window they give you for COVID related reasons. I'm not advocating lying, but saying you had a recent known exposure over Christmas and you don't want to risk showing up to the port positive is likely a sufficient reason to cancel within this policy.

I would strongly recommend asking to rebook to a later date when your 5 year old will be fully vaccinated rather than asking to cancel. Much easier to get an exception for rebooking than for refund.
