I always used AAA for my travel insurance. As treatment for my preexisting condition didn't show up as billed within the insurance policy effective dates there was no problem. I did have to be treated a couple of times aboard the Disney ship for a medical problem and I submitted the claim for that after the cruises. The trip :thumbsup2 insurance covered the bills, which my regular insurance would not do as I was treated out of the country.

Hi!

I'm specifically looking for trip cancellation insurance that covers cancellation of a trip due to a preexisting medical condition.

I have a feeling no insurance is available.

This is the situation.

To go on a cruise, you have to pay everything in advance (about 3 months in advance).

When you buy the cruise (in this case a disney cruise, but the same is true for any cruise), you also can buy trip cancellation insurance.

If you have to cancel your trip for a reason that is covered by the insurance, the insurance company will refund you the cost of the trip.

So for example, if you get very very sick and can't go on the cruise, you file a claim with the insurance company, which reimburses you for the cost of the cruise.

However, if you are too sick to go on the cruise due to a preexisting condition, the insurance company will NOT reimburse you. they will not refund your money.

So for example, if someone has cancer that is in remission, but then the cancer comes back right before the trip and the person is too sick to travel, they will not get their money back from the insurance company.

I have to call DCL and see what they say about a situation like that.

But i'm pretty sure there are no insurance company policies that cover it.

I know that the insurance company for the DCL cruises does NOT cover that situation..

I was hoping someone on the board would know of a company that does cover it.

You might want to try this thread from last year which dealt with similar problems.

thanks but that thread deals with travel medical insurance if you actually go on the cruise.
I don't care about that situation.

I am looking for trip cancellation insurance NOT medical coverage on the trip itself.

the two situations are not the same.

i think that what it comes down to is i'm going to have to take the financial exposure on myself.

if we can't go on the cruise, i'll have to eat the $6,000 i've paid for the cruise.
I will not get a refund.
Simple as that.
