I don't really want to miss ToT with my DD on Halloween, but one of the cruises we are looking to book sails out on October 31st. Do they do some sort of trick or treating on the ship??

Which ship will you be on? There was no trick or treating on the Fantasy - just costume contests, a deck party and a bag of candy for each kid in the staterooms. I know the celebration is more extensive on the Dream....

Next year could be different, this year was the first year they formalized Halloween celebrations and advertised which sailings Halloween would be celebrated on. I know DCL will have gotten lots of feedback from guests on what they liked and didn't like. I'm hoping they will expand what they had on the Dream to all of the ships.

Personally I was disappointed in the Halloween celebration on the Fantasy. I really wanted to take DD trick or treating but they didn't have that, we didn't even get a bag of candy in our stateroom. At least she is too little to know what she missed. I did like the photo ops with the characters in their Halloween costumes.

I thought that trick or treating was advertised as part of the celebration but I could be wrong.

We were on the Fantasy last year, and it was about the same as your experience. Our stateroom host did find us a small bag of candy, but it wasn't all that. If I had little kids who love trick or treating, they would've really be upset. The Fantasy did have a costume contest but it was about 10 p.m. so there weren't many kids.

I'm pretty sure only the Dream listed trick or treating as part of the Halloween events this year.

We were on one of the Halloween Dream cruises. They do a Halloween Tree lighting in the atrium in the evening and have photo ops with the characters. Disney cast members are dresses up in Halloween costumes and hand out candy. It was fun but a little crowded. We watched from the level above.

As far as going ToT there is really no place to go to. Guest don't want to stay in their staterooms, there are only two gift shops. I don't know how Disney could do it.

Dang. OK. I know DH and DD won't want to be on the ship on Halloween then. Guess I will have to look at an earlier October sailing...

In the past, reports have been that the best TorTing was arranged by the DIS meet groups.

We were on the Magic on Halloween in 2009 and they did do Trick-or-Treating. They left a map in your stateroom with all the stations set up around the ship (there were several) and you went from station to station, kinda like at the MNSSHP at the Magic Kingdom. There were also several photo ops set up as well. DS (4 at the time) wore his Clifford costume and had a great time (and got lots of complements).

We did the Dream this year and the Magic. There's no trick or treating but in my opinion, you still end up with too much candy.

On the Dream, they have CMs handing out candy. On the Magic, there were displays with candy.

My 6 1/2 year old didn't miss trick or treating at home. She said she missed dressing up at school, but then remembered she spent 11 nights over 3 Disney cruises and never said another word!!

No Trick or Treating on the Fantasy on October 31 this year. There was a deck party at 7:45 but it was really boring, not sure who ever thought walking around with a camera and microphone interviewing a few guests could be considered a party or that little kids would like it. The next activity was an adults only costume contest at around 10pm and then a family Halloween Bash at 10:30pm.

It was terribly disappointing. I called DCL before we booked to see if there would be kids' Halloween celebration and Trick or Treating. I was told, yes! But that information was not correct. There was only a crumpled up bag of generic candy delivered to our stateroom by our room steward.

Hmmm. Dang. Seems like nothing was even done on the Wonder this year, so it's probably doubtful anything will be done next year. Back to the drawing board...

Just to add to this, we are just off the Fantasy too from the 26th Oct cruise.

As TBMommy says there was no actual trick or treating but the cabin steward delivered us a huge bag of mini sweets and chocolates and then there were various Halloween displays in the restaurants which kids could pick from, so my son picked a few things from Cabanas at breakfast. Then at dinner the head server came up and took him down to the front of the restaurant and he came back with a huge amount of stuff! So whilst there was no actual TOT, there were plenty of treats for the kids. The activities in kids club/lab were ok too, Halloween crafts and stuff and there were some craft sessions for all ages throughout the day too.

We took some decorations from the cheap £ shops here and decorated our door, our stateroom and had battery operated lights too. We also had a light up pumpkin which we took to dinner which got a lot of interest :rotfl: So we made it fun in our own way!

I thought it was odd about the adult only costume contest, why not have a kids one :confused3 Though kudos to the adults, the contest was buzzing, the whole atrium was chock full with people on every level and there were some amazing costume efforts :thumbsup2

We did not go to the Halloween deck party, we did go to the family bash in D Lounge but we didn't stay, it was just a disco, not really a bash and didn't look that great.

I guess you have to plan to do a bit yourself or join a meet group to organise TOT amongst the group maybe.

Fab cruise though anyhow :cool1:

There definitely was plenty of candy available. But having a bag of generic candy delivered to your room for Halloween is kind of like watching fireworks on the TV on 4th of July instead of sitting under the stars watching them. Like just adding a few new toys to your kid's toy box instead of having Christmas morning. Like eating a piece of birthday cake by yourself with no candles, singing, or loved ones to share it with.

TBMommy, I hear you and I do agree with that.

If Halloween is a real big deal to you and TOT is a real big deal then the cruise will disappoint.

But I understand and don't see how they could have kids going TOT around the cabins. From the UK for us it was fine but then I think Halloween may be bigger for you guys over there, certainly we were really surprised by the number of adults dressing up and also by the nature of the costumes; it seemed any costume was ok whereas in the UK a Halloween costume would definitely have a 'scary' theme.

Yeah I dont think I will want to be on the ship on October 31st, cuz we definitely love Halloween and ToTing and I think I might be disappointed.

What DCL had done in the past for Halloween was to deliver a bag and a map to each room with kids. They would then follow the map to various stations around the ship to TorT. The final station being a party on deck. They did this in the afternoon from what I understand. I was expecting something similar. I never expected to go cabin to cabin.

Now that sounds really good! For sure they could have done that especially as it was a sea day. That would have been cool.
